Amid Family Feud, Rohini Acharya Challenges Critics To Begin Kidney Donation In Lalu's Name
After quitting politics and disowning her own family, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav's daughter Rohini Acharya once again hit out at the critics while referring to close aides of party leader and her brother Tejashwi Yadav.
In a post on X, Acharya criticised those who, she said, invoke her father's name for political mileage while showing “false sympathy." She urged such people to come forward instead and donate kidneys to “the millions of poor patients counting their last breaths in hospitals."
Acharya, who made headlines after donating her kidney to RJD patriarch and her father in 2022, said that if anyone truly wishes to do something in Lalu Prasad's name, they should “donate their kidney to the needy" rather than offering lectures on morality.
“Those people who want to do something in the name of Lalu Ji should stop pretending to show false sympathy and instead step forward to donate their kidneys to those millions—crores of poor people who are counting their last breaths in hospitals and need kidneys, and donate their kidneys in the name of Lalu Ji," she said in a post on X.
She added that those who once questioned her decision to donate her kidney—calling it “wrong for a married daughter"—should first themselves set an example by donating kidneys to patients in need.
“Those who called my kidney ‘dirty' should begin this mahadaan (great donation). After that the so-called Haryanvi ‘mahapurush', sycophant journalists, and trolling devotees who abuse me day and night should also follow," she added.
Along with her post, Acharya who alleged that she was subjected to humiliation during a confrontation following Mahagathbandhan's crushing defeat in the Bihar elections, shared a video of her phone conversation with journalist Kanhaiya Bhelari, whom she confronted for allegedly making remarks that “married daughters should not stay in their mother's home for long."
During the heated exchange, Rohini demanded an explanation for his comments and challenged him to justify why married daughters should be restricted.
“Who told you to decide how many hours or days a daughter can stay in her parents' home? Why don't you ask instead: how did a married daughter dare to give her father a kidney? You didn't take responsibility for this daughter. Lalu Yadav did. Don't lecture me," she was heard asking the journalist in the video.
She also accused Bhelari of twisting facts, dragging her mother Rabri Devi's name unnecessarily, and hiding behind selective interpretations of cultural norms. When the journalist attempted to clarify, Rohini retorted, “You don't have the courage to speak in front of a crowd. Come debate me openly."
The turmoil inside the RJD family deepened after Lalu's daughter, Rohini Acharya, in an emotional and sensational allegation-filled outburst on social media, alleged that she was subjected to humiliation, including abusive language, an attempt to assault her with a slipper, and her kidney being called “dirty".
She said she refused to compromise on her self-respect or abandon the truth, claiming this was the reason she faced such behaviour.
Rohini was spotted in the national capital on Sunday as she left the home of her sister, Rajya Sabha MP Misa Bharti. Speaking to reporters, she said she stood by every word she had posted on social media.
“Yesterday, a daughter, a sister, a married woman, a mother was humiliated, filthy abuses were hurled at her, a slipper was raised to hit her. I did not compromise on my self-respect, I did not surrender the truth, and solely because of this, I had to endure this insult…Yesterday, a daughter, out of compulsion, left behind her crying parents and sisters and came away; they tore me away from my maternal home… They left me orphaned…May none of you ever walk my path, may no family ever have a daughter-sister like Rohini," she said in a post on X.
While referring to RJD's debacle in the Bihar Assembly election results, Rohini said that anyone who questions them about taking responsibility for the party's defeat in the Bihar election would be treated the same way she has been, as they are unwilling to accept accountability.
Rohini, who donated a kidney to her father in 2022, said she was subjected to “filthy abuses" during a confrontation involving two of Tejashwi Yadav's closest aides — RJD Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav and long-time associate Rameez. She accused them of maligning her by claiming she had “taken crores" from the family after the kidney donation, calling it an “insult beyond forgiveness".
She further alleged that merely taking the names of Sanjay and Rameez could provoke retaliation. “If Sanjay and Rameez's names are mentioned, they will throw you out of the house, make people insult you, and even hit you with a slipper," she claimed.
Tejashwi Yadav, whose leadership and choice of advisers have come under fire since the defeat, has stayed largely out of public view.
