8th Pay Commission meetings in Delhi

8th Pay Commission meetings in Delhi: Latest updates for central government employees
The 8th Pay Commission has begun its latest round of stakeholder interactions in New Delhi, with employee associations and other groups presenting their views on pay, allowances, pensions and service conditions. The Commission held an interaction on August 7 and has another meeting scheduled for August 10, 2026.
The 8th Pay Commission has begun its latest round of stakeholder interactions in New Delhi, with employee associations and other groups presenting their views on pay, allowances, pensions and service conditions.
The 8th Central Pay Commission is continuing its stakeholder consultation process in New Delhi, giving employee associations and other eligible groups an opportunity to put forward their views and representations.
According to the Commission’s official notice, its Delhi interactions are being held on August 7 and August 10, 2026. The August 7 interaction has already taken place, while the next meeting is scheduled for August 10. The consultations are part of the Commission’s wider exercise to gather views from employees, pensioners, associations and other stakeholders.
The Commission was constituted by the government on November 3, 2025, and has been given 18 months to submit its report. It is headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, with Prof. Pulak Ghosh as part-time member and Pankaj Jain as member-secretary.

The Commission has not announced a separate detailed agenda for the August Delhi interactions. However, the consultations give eligible associations and unions an opportunity to present their demands and suggestions on matters relating to pay, allowances, pension benefits and service conditions.
For central government employees, areas such as pay revision, fitment factor, allowances and retirement benefits are among the major points of interest in the wider pay revision exercise.
The fitment factor is particularly important because it would be relevant to determining revised basic pay under a new pay structure. However, the Commission has not announced or recommended any final fitment factor.
Employee organisations may put forward demands for higher pay or changes to allowances and benefits, but such demands should not be treated as approved changes. The Commission will consider stakeholder representations before making its recommendations, while the final decision will rest with the government.

The Delhi interactions are part of a wider programme of consultations across different parts of the country.
According to notices issued by the Commission, it will visit Jaipur on August 31 and September 1, followed by Chennai on September 7-8, Puducherry on September 9 and Chandigarh on September 16-18.
These regional interactions are part of the Commission’s continuing stakeholder consultation process, giving eligible associations and other stakeholders an opportunity to present their views directly to the panel.
The Commission has scheduled these consultations as it continues gathering inputs from stakeholders across different regions.
The 8th Pay Commission invited representations, memorandums and suggestions from a wide range of stakeholders, including central government employees, All India Services personnel, defence personnel, Union Territory employees, pensioners, service associations and unions.
The deadline for submitting responses to the Commission’s memorandum was extended to June 15, 2026. The Commission’s official website confirms that the extended deadline ended on that date.
The memorandums provide the Commission with stakeholder inputs on matters affecting employees and pensioners. The ongoing consultations give eligible associations and unions an opportunity to present their views as the Commission examines the representations it has received.

The 8th Pay Commission is examining matters related to the pay structure, allowances, pension benefits and other service conditions covered by its mandate.
A key area for employees is the potential revision of basic pay through a new pay structure and fitment factor. Other areas of interest include allowances and retirement-related benefits.
However, there is currently no officially approved fitment factor, final salary hike percentage or revised minimum basic pay from the 8th Pay Commission.
Figures being circulated as proposed fitment factors or salary increases should therefore be treated as demands, estimates or projections unless they are formally recommended by the Commission and subsequently accepted by the government.
The 8th Central Pay Commission is a government-appointed body constituted to examine matters relating to the pay, allowances, benefits and service conditions of central government employees and other categories covered under its terms of reference.
The Commission was constituted through a government notification dated November 3, 2025, and has been given 18 months to submit its report.
The Commission is headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai. Prof. Pulak Ghosh is the part-time member and Pankaj Jain is the member-secretary.
The 8th Pay Commission is currently in the consultation and data-gathering phase. The Commission has been given 18 months to submit its recommendations, after which the government will examine its report and take a decision on the recommendations.
There is currently no final implementation date for revised salaries announced by the government.
The eventual timeline will depend on when the Commission submits its recommendations, how the government considers them and when any approved changes are notified.
If the government later approves a revised pay structure with retrospective effect, eligible employees and pensioners could receive arrears for the period between the approved effective date and actual implementation. However, the effective date and terms of any arrears will depend on the government’s final decision.

The Delhi meetings are another step in the 8th Pay Commission’s ongoing consultation process. The Commission will continue gathering and examining stakeholder inputs before preparing its recommendations. For central government employees and pensioners, the key points include:
