Easy And Delicious Holi Recipes To Celebrate The Festival At Home
Holi celebrations are incomplete without festive indulgences. While classic sweets like malpua bring traditional richness to the table, easy home-style snacks such as dahi bhalla and crispy tikkis add comfort and flavour to the spread. Here’s a mix of a chef-crafted festive dessert and simple, crowd-pleasing recipes you can recreate at home this Holi.
Ingredients
All-purpose flour (maida) – 50 gm
Arrowroot powder – 50 gm
Sugar – 300 gm
Water – 300 gm
Sugar syrup – 600 gm
Fennel seeds (saunf) – ½ teaspoon (slightly crushed)
Cardamom powder – ½ teaspoon
Ghee – for frying
Nuts – for garnish
Method
Mix the dry ingredients:
In a large bowl, combine the flour, arrowroot powder, fennel seeds, and cardamom powder.
Prepare the batter:
Gradually add water while whisking to avoid lumps. The batter should be smooth and of pouring consistency—similar to pancake batter, neither too thick nor too thin.
Make the sugar syrup:
In a pan, combine sugar, water, and crushed cardamom. Bring to a boil and simmer until slightly sticky.
Cook the malpua:
Heat desi ghee in a thick-bottomed pan. Pour a ladleful of batter to form small pancakes. Cook on both sides until golden brown and crisp on the outside.
Soak and serve:
Dip the malpuas in the sugar syrup and let them soak briefly. Serve warm or chilled, garnished with rabri and nuts.
Ingredients
4–6 slices Harvest Gold Brown Bread
Water, as needed
1 cup curd
Green chutney, for spreading
Tamarind chutney, for serving
Red chilli powder, for sprinkling
Chaat masala, for sprinkling
Oil, for frying
Pomegranate seeds, for garnish
Bread crumbles (fried bread edges)
Instructions
Cut off the edges of the bread slices and keep them aside.
Soak the bread slices lightly in water.
Place curd between each bread slice to create bread pockets.
Take the non-soaked bread slices and spread green chutney and curd on them.
Sprinkle red chilli powder over the curd.
Close the bread and roll gently until flattened.
Cut into four pieces.
Fry:
Fry the bread edges until golden brown and set aside.
Fry the bread pockets and set aside.
Fry the flattened bread pieces and set aside.
Mix chaat masala and red chilli powder into the fried bread edges and crush them.
Dip the fried bread pockets briefly in water.
Assemble
On a serving plate:
Spread curd on the plate.
Place the fried bread pieces on top.
Add the soaked bread pockets, breaking them into pieces.
Drizzle green chutney and tamarind chutney.
Sprinkle red chilli powder and bread crumbles.
Garnish with pomegranate seeds and serve.
Ingredients
6–8 slices Harvest Gold Atta Bread
2 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
1 small onion, finely chopped
1–2 green chillies, finely chopped
1 teaspoon ginger paste
½ teaspoon red chilli powder
½ teaspoon garam masala
½ teaspoon chaat masala
2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves, chopped
Salt, to taste
Oil, for shallow frying
Green chutney, for serving
Tamarind chutney, for serving
Instructions
Boil and mash the potatoes in a bowl until smooth.
Add onions, green chillies, ginger paste, red chilli powder, garam masala, chaat masala, coriander leaves, and salt.
Mix well to form a spiced potato mixture.
Trim the edges of the bread slices.
Place two tablespoons of the potato mixture in the centre.
Bring the edges together and seal properly to form a round or oval tikki.
Gently flatten to shape.
Repeat with remaining slices.
Fry:
Heat oil in a pan.
Shallow fry on medium heat until golden brown and crispy on both sides.
Remove and drain on absorbent paper.
Assemble & Serve
Arrange the hot bread tikkis on a plate.
Drizzle green chutney and tamarind chutney, or serve on the side.
Sprinkle chaat masala.
Garnish with coriander leaves or pomegranate seeds if desired.
