DYK Siddhant Chaturvedi And Triptii Dimri’s Dhadak 2 Was Initially Titled Panther?
Dhadak 2, the Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri starrer romantic drama, has been receiving audience love, especially for its powerful performances and for highlighting social issues like caste and class discrimination in contemporary India. Helmed by Shazia Iqbal and produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, the film was released on the big screens on August 1 and recently started its OTT journey through Netflix.
The film is an official Hindi remake of the 2018 Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal and serves as a spiritual sequel to 2018's romantic drama, Dhadak, featuring Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor in the leads. But did you know that Dhadak 2 was initially titled Panther?
Shazia Iqbal On Dhadak 2's Initial Title
In a recent chat with Sucharita Tyagi, director Shazia made a big revelation that it was not made with the intention of a potential sequel at the early stage, but a standalone film.
The director said, “We had tentatively titled the film Panther at a very early stage because of Dalit Panthers and the team of the group that Shekhar (a character from Dhadak 2) runs was called Dalit Panther and that's why Nilesh's journey was about becoming a Panther."

Siddhant Chaturvedi On Dhadak 2's Title
Siddhant, on the other hand, said, “When I heard the script, I never thought it was a sequel because the thing is I feel like this whole film is talking about identity and firstly it's a remake, so we are already burdened with something. Then it's a sequel. So where will our identity go? So very symbolically, ironically, Dhadak 2 never grew on me, honestly."
Dhadak 2 Storyline
The film explores the inter-caste love story of Neelesh, a Dalit law student, and Vidhi, an upper-caste girl, set against the backdrop of systemic caste oppression and societal prejudice. The film depicts the discrimination Neelesh faces at law school, the challenges to their forbidden relationship, and the divisive issue of student quotas.
Siddhant Chaturvedi's Upcoming Projects
Up next, the actor will be seen in the romantic drama, Dil Ka Darwaza Khol Na Darling, with Wamiqa Gabbi and Jaya Bachchan.
