Dr Blossom Kochhar Reveals 3 Common Wedding Makeup Mistakes That Cause Last-Minute Panic

Every bride dreams of walking down the aisle with glowing skin, flawless makeup, and complete confidence. But in the rush of wedding planning, many overlook small beauty mistakes that can turn into major problems on the final day. But the good news is that most wedding-day beauty mishaps are entirely preventable provided brides know what to avoid.

1. Experimenting with New Skincare or Treatments Right Before the Wedding

Dr. Blossom Kochhar, founder, Blossom Kochhar Group of Companies explains that one of the biggest mistakes brides make is trying out new products or last-minute facials just days before the ceremony.

“Your skin needs familiarity, especially when it's under stress," she says. Introducing a new serum, peel, or treatment too close to the wedding can trigger irritation, breakouts, or unexpected reactions. She advises brides to finalise their skincare routine at least four to six weeks before the wedding and stick to it consistently. If a treatment isn't already part of your routine, the week of your wedding is not the time to introduce it.

2. Overloading on Heavy Products and Layering Too Much Makeup

Under pressure to look picture-perfect, many brides end up applying excessive primer, foundation, and powder. Dr. Kochhar notes that heavy makeup can accentuate texture, settle into fine lines, and break down more quickly under heat and lighting.

“The goal should be enhancing your natural features, not masking them," she explains. She recommends using lightweight formulas, keeping the skin well-hydrated, and ensuring proper skin prep so makeup glides on smoothly and lasts throughout the celebrations.

3. Ignoring Skin Prep on the Wedding Day

One of the most underestimated mistakes is rushing into makeup without proper skin preparation. Brides often skip essential steps like gentle cleansing, toning, hydrating, and priming usually because they are overwhelmed or running late.

“Makeup can only look as good as the skin underneath," Dr. Kochhar emphasizes. She suggests planning a simple wedding-morning ritual: a mild cleanser, a hydrating mist or toner, a suitable moisturizer, and a makeup-friendly sunscreen if the event is during the day.

Dr Kochhar reminds brides that a stress-free wedding look comes down to consistency, simplicity, and awareness. “Beautiful bridal makeup begins long before your makeup artist arrives," she says. With a mindful routine and a few precautions, every bride can enjoy a calm, confident, and radiant wedding-day glow.
