Sanjay Dutt played a memorable role in Aamir Khan starrer PK which released in 2014 and became an all-time blockbuster.
It was around the same time, Sanjay Dutt went to jail in the 1993 arms case and after that he made a comeback to Hindi cinema with the 2017 movie Bhoomi which bombed at the box office.
He followed it up with Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3 (2018), Kalank (2019), Prassthanam (2019), Panipat (2019), Samrat Prithviraj (2022), Shamshera (2022), The Bhootnii (2025), Housefull 5 (2025) and Baaghi 4 (2025).

Barring Housefull 5, which did average business, all other movies flopped at the box office.
This meant, since the release of PK in 2014, Sanjay Dutt hadn't delivered a legit box office hit in Bollywood until Dhurandhar.
Dhurandhar has broken the curse of Sanjay Dutt who was starring in one box office dud after another when it came to the Hindi film industry.
Besides the Hindi movies, Sanjay Dutt also featured in a couple of movies from south out of which only KGF: Chapter 2 and Leo worked at the box office. However, even among those, it was only KGF: Chapter 2 that made a splash at the Hindi box office.
