Dharmendra Deol health news live updates: Veteran actor Dharmendra was discharged from Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on Wednesday morning, Sunny Deol's team said in an official statement. The 89-year-old star, who had been under treatment for the past few days, will continue his recovery at home. Earlier, his daughter Esha Deol assured fans that her father was stable, dismissing false reports about his health. “The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy,” she wrote on social media.
Her clarification came shortly after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar mistakenly shared condolence messages online, fuelling confusion about the actor's health.
Hema Malini Condemns ‘False News' About Dharmendra's Death
Dharmendra's wife and veteran actress Hema Malini has also strongly criticised the circulation of fake news about his passing. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she expressed her disappointment at the “irresponsible behaviour” of certain media outlets. “What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering? This is being extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy,” she posted.
Sources close to the Deol family have shared that Dharmendra was admitted last month for a routine health check-up and continues to remain under observation. His team has requested fans to keep him in their prayers as he recovers.

Dharmendra's health scare has prompted a wave of concern and support from the film industry. On Monday night, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, accompanied by Aryan Khan, visited the veteran star at the hospital. On Tuesday, Aamir Khan was also spotted arriving to check on him.

In the early 1970s, Dharmendra was among Hindi cinema's rising stars when writer Salim Khan approached him with the concept for Zanjeer, the film that would later define Amitabh Bachchan's career. Impressed by the idea, Dharmendra paid Rs 2,500 to acquire it.
According to Written by Salim-Javed by Diptakirti Chaudhuri, Salim had developed the story even before partnering with Javed Akhtar. Inspired by his father's years as a police officer in the Chambal ravines—a backdrop that also influenced Sholay—Salim sold the concept to Dharmendra, who was slated to star, while his brother Ajit would co-produce the film with director Prakash Mehra.
“Dharmendra ji was discharged from the hospital around 7.30 am. He will be treated at home as the family has decided to give him treatment at home,” Dr. Pratit Samdani told PTI.
The ambulance carrying Dharmendra has now arrived at the veteran actor's residence in Mumbai as he will continue treatment at home.
Amid the confusion surrounding Dharmendra's health, Javed Akhtar had taken to X to pen a heartfelt tribute for the actor. However, after it was confirmed that he is now in recovery, Akhtar deleted the post. In his note, Akhtar had called Dharmendra the “perfect combination of masculinity and gentleness”.
He also mentioned, “He was an actor for all seasons. He was a kind and a polite person with a heart of gold. My deepest condolences to the Deol family. We who have been fortunate enough to work with him will always miss him.”
The X post has since been deleted.

Long before Hema Malini or Prakash Kaur, Dharmendra's first love was Hamida, his schoolteacher's daughter, whom he lost after the 1947 Partition. On Dus Ka Dum, he recalled, “Hum man hi man mein kehte rehte the. Thandi aahen bharte rehte the. Samne wali ko maloom hi nahi tha (We kept saying it silently in our hearts… the one in front never even knew).” He added about his poem for her, “Main chhota tha, maasoom thi umar meri… Woh taliba thi aathvi ki, main chhathi ka tha. Hamare school teacher ki beti thi, naam Hamida tha.”
Esha Deol had recently recounted her first meeting with Prakash Kaur, nearly 30 years after her father's first marriage. In Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl, she explained that the visit to her uncle Ajeet Deol's home in 2015 brought her face-to-face with her stepmother. “I touched her feet, and she left me after blessing me,” Esha shared.
Hema Malini also reflected on the family dynamic in her biography, noting that she had deliberately maintained distance from Prakash out of respect. “I didn't want to disturb anyone. I am happy with whatever Dharamji did for me and my daughters. He played the role of a father, like any father would do. I guess I am happy with that,” she wrote.
Esha Deol appeared visibly annoyed as paparazzi blocked her car while leaving Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital after visiting her ailing father, Dharmendra, on November 11. Frustrated by the obstruction, she was seen folding her hands, gesturing at the photographers, and seemingly asking, “What is this?” as they continued to crowd around, making it difficult for her and her family to leave.
