Deloitte to invest Rs 100 crore to create CoE for AI infra
Deloitte is launching a virtual centre of excellence (CoE) for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure to tap into the growing demand for data centres globally at an investment of Rs 100 crore over the next 12 months, said Nitin Mittal, global AI leader.
This comes on the back of trillions of dollars of investments going into data centres from governments and commercial enterprises, in part driven by AI that requires high-power computing.
India is clearly no exception to this development. According to an India Ratings and Research report, the Indian data centre sector is expected to see investments of the order of Rs 1.6 trillion ($18 billion) over the next five years.
Globally, the investments are expected to reach $7 trillion by 2030, according to a 2025 McKinsey report. Technology majors such as Microsoft, OpenAI, and Google have committed billions to set up large-scale data centres globally, with India a significant part of the plan. ET reported that OpenAI is in talks with data centre companies.
Mittal explained that this means that one also needs to build the infrastructure around it. This includes the data centre itself, cooling systems, and understanding energy requirements to run them. But there is a skill and capability gap, pointed out Mittal.
The company is launching an AI infrastructure CoE to cater to this growing demand from India and the global market as a part of its Silicon2Service initiative.
AI Infrastructure CoE, Deloitte's global initiative, was first announced on September 4, when the company said that it aims to bring specialised AI capabilities to the high-performance computing infrastructure. Mittal said that this will be a virtual CoE, where close to two-thirds of the team will be based in India but will cater to the global market.
The talent will be a mixture of technologists and consultants that will help its customers on multiple aspects of data centres, such as identifying the location for setting up data centres to architecture. The company has also partnered with Yotta, Nvidia, and Dell to offer clients access to AI infrastructure.
