Delhi's Return To Top-Tier Indian Football! Hyderabad FC Rebrands As Sporting Club Delhi

The national capital gets a top-flight football club again.

On Saturday, Sporting Club Delhi was officially launched after Indian Super League side Hyderabad FC was rebranded and relocated for the 2025–26 season.

The move returns elite-level football to Delhi for the first time since the Delhi Dynamos left after the ISL's inaugural seasons and became Odisha FC in 2019.

Sporting Club Delhi will take Hyderabad FC's place in the upcoming Super Cup in Goa, which begins October 25; the All India Football Federation (AIFF) is expected to update the fixtures to reflect the new name.

A new chapter for Delhi football — vision and identity

At the launch, BC Jindal Group promoter Bhavesh Jindal framed the rebrand as more than a name change.

“The unveiling of Sporting Club Delhi marks the beginning of a new chapter for football in the Delhi NCR region and India. The club will represent inclusivity, ambition, and the city's spirit and enthusiasm for the sport," he said.

Sporting Club Delhi revealed a new crest featuring a stylised phoenix, symbolising a rebirth of professional football in the capital.

CEO Dhruv Sood said the emblem reflects the club's ambitions: “Our new identity shines a spotlight on Delhi rising from the ashes in the absence of professional football in the city and the region. The capital city… will return to the top-tier of Indian football leagues with its own club."

What this means competitively and commercially

Jindal Football obtained Hyderabad FC's sporting licence before the ISL 2024–25 season and elected to shift the club's base to Delhi for broader commercial and development reasons. Hyderabad FC's proud recent history — including the ISL title in 2021–22 — gives the new franchise immediate pedigree on the pitch.

For the ISL and Indian football, the reintroduction of a Delhi club brings back a major metropolitan market with significant sponsorship, media and grassroots potential. Sporting Club Delhi inherits Hyderabad FC's place in competitions immediately, and the club has signalled commitments to invest in local academies and community programmes to build a sustainable fanbase.
