Delhi progressing after 'AAP-da' rule, says PM Modi, slams AITC for 'insult' to Prez
Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated International Women's Day by highlighting women's progress across various sectors. He expressed strong disapproval of the West Bengal government's actions towards President Droupadi Murmu during her recent visit. Modi stated this was an insult to the President, the Constitution, and democracy. He also mentioned his government's efforts in empowering women economically.
New Delhi: On the occasion of International Women's Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the achievements of women in India across different fields, but expressed anguish over the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool government in West Bengal not according an official welcome to President Droupadi Murmu during her visit to the state to participate in a programme.
Speaking at an event here to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate various development projects in Delhi-NCR region, the PM also praised the Rekha Gupta-led dispensation for ensuring rapid progress after the ouster of the "AAP-da" (disaster) government a year ago.
"Whether in politics, administration, science, sports, or social service, India's women power is advancing with new energy in every field. I heartily congratulate the women power of the entire nation on Women's Day, acknowledge their immense contribution to national development, and extend countless good wishes so that they continue to strengthen society and the nation, and provide new energy to lead the country further on the path of progress," Modi said.
Expressing his displeasure over the treatment of President Murmu in Bengal - where the CM neither received her nor shared the dais with her - Modi said, "As the nation celebrates International Women's Day today, yesterday in Bengal, the Trinamool government gravely insulted the President of India, the honourable Droupadi Murmuji. She had gone to Bengal to participate in a major festival of the Santhal tribal tradition. But instead of honouring the President and this important tribal programme, Trinamool boycotted the sacred event of the Santhal people and boycotted the President herself."
"This is not only an insult to President, but also an insult to the Constitution of India, and to the great tradition of democracy. It is also an insult to every sister and daughter who has risen through struggles to achieve great heights," he said. Modi asserted that under his government women have been economically empowered and cited the example of three crore women associated with Self-Help Groups becoming Lakhpati Didis. The goal now, he added, is to add another three crore women to this list.
