Delhi Air Quality Control: Measures Part Of GRAP 4 To Be Taken Under GRAP 3 As AQI Turns ‘Very Poor’
Delhi AQI: Despite recording a slight improvement from the average AQI recorded on Friday, a layer of smog continued to cover parts of Delhi. Taking action on the matter, the authorities have announced that certain measures for the 'poor', 'very poor', and 'severe' AQI categories, currently under GRAP Stage IV, will be taken under GRAP Stage III.
Delhi AQI: Delhi's air quality remained in the 'very poor' category on Saturday morning, recording an average AQI of 359, according to data from the Air Quality Early Warning System. In a significant development aimed at improving pollution levels, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) NCR and Adjoining Areas has revised the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for the entire NCR, directed to impose the measures for the 'severe' AQI category under GRAP Stage IV to be taken under GRAP Stage III.
Despite recording a slight improvement from the average of 364 AQI recorded on Friday, a layer of toxic smog continued to envelope parts of the city early in the morning.

The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is an emergency response mechanism for the National Capital Region (NCR), based on the Daily Average AQI level in Delhi.
Meanwhile, CAQM revised the GRAP Schedule on Friday to make it more stringent and thus aiming to make the air quality in Delhi-NCR better.
The following measures for the 'poor', 'very poor', and 'severe' AQI categories, currently under GRAP Stage IV to be taken under GRAP Stage III, including the following:
1. NCR State Governments/GNCTD to decide on allowing public, municipal, and private offices to work at 50 per cent strength and the rest to work from home.
2. The Central Government may take an appropriate decision on permitting work from home for employees in central government offices.

The ITO area, which recorded an AQI of 370 in the 'very poor category', saw commuters going about their day amid the smog.
Meanwhile Noida area also continued to have its air remain in the 'severe' category, with Sector 125 recording an AQI of 434, with slight improvement seen since Friday. Greater Noida area seemed to have comparatively better air quality; while the Knowledge Park 5 area recorded 393 AQI, the Knowledge Park 3 recorded 294 AQI in the 'poor' category.
In view of the air quality conditions in the national capital, the Delhi High Court had earlier ordered the cancellation of all outdoor sports events, after schoolchildren complained that these toxic winter months are harmful for their lungs and overall health.
