More than 50 people were detained and a curfew was imposed in Leh, the capital of Ladakh, a day after clashes left four dead and over 80 injured. The authorities in Kargil and other major towns of Ladakh also enforced prohibitory orders banning gatherings of five or more people.
Police and paramilitary personnel in riot gear were deployed across Kargil, Zanskar, Nubra, Padam, Changtang, Drass and Lamayuru.
On Wednesday, protests demanding statehood for Ladakh and its inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution that gives autonomy to tribal areas turned violent, with cases of arson and clashes with security forces.
The Centre has attributed the unrest to the “provocative statements” of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been leading the protests. Read on.

The International Cricket Council will hear complaints filed by the Indian and Pakistani cricket boards against each other's players following a series of controversial incidents during the ongoing Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. The Pakistan Cricket Board filed a complaint against Indian men's team captain Suryakumar Yadav over an allegedly “political” comment made during a press conference on September 14.
Yadav had expressed his solidarity with those who died in the Pahalgam terror attack in April and dedicated the cricket team's victory that day to the Indian military.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India lodged a complaint against Pakistan's Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan for allegedly provocative gestures during the Super 4 stage match on September 21. Rauf was seen mimicking the shooting down of aircraft, while Farhan celebrated his half-century with making a gesture with his bat to suggest he was firing a gun. Read on.
Former Narcotics Control Bureau Mumbai zonal director Sameer Wankhede has filed a defamation suit in the Delhi High Court, claiming that the Netflix series The Ba***ds of Bollywood portrays him in a defamatory manner. He is seeking Rs 2 crore in damages.
The suit names production house Red Chillies Entertainment and its co-founder Gauri Khan. The series The Ba***ds of Bollywood has been directed by Aryan Khan, the son of Gauri Khan and actor Shah Rukh Khan.
Wankhede alleges that the series was deliberately produced to malign his reputation over the arrest of Aryan Khan in the 2021 Cordelia cruise narcotics case while court proceedings on the matter are still underway.
In May 2022, the Narcotics Control Bureau cleared Aryan Khan of charges in the case as it did not find corroborative evidence against him. Read on.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested a man in Kulgam district for allegedly providing logistical support to the terrorists responsible for the attack in Pahalgam on April 22. The man, identified as 26-year-old Muhammad Yousuf Katari allegedly worked as an overground worker for Lashkar-e-Taiba, the terror outfit allegedly responsible for the attack.
The terror attack at Baisaran near Pahalgam town in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22 left 26 persons dead and 16 injured.
Three terrorists involved in the attack were later killed by security forces in July. Two other men have been arrested by the National Investigation Agency on allegations of sheltering the terrorists. Read on.
