Weight loss drugs have recently experienced an unprecedented surge in popularity. The internet is obsessed with it, and we often come across transition stories where celebrities, influencers, and everyday people are using it as a shortcut to rapid weight loss. From Ozempic to Wegovy to Mounjaro, these drugs have become the most sought-after weight loss medications.
The surge in popularity of weight loss drugs is driven by their effectiveness, yet this trend carries significant, often overlooked, consequences. While these injections can lead to rapid weight loss, they also come with a complex mix of physical side effects, high costs, and a lot of judgment.
To strengthen the claim, we can look at Stand-up comedian and content creator Aishwarya Mohanraj's weight loss journey. In a recent YouTube video, Aishwarya discussed her health conditions, mental health, and decision to use Mounjaro for weight loss. Her video offered a transparent look at her journey, contrasting with typical curated content.
Aishwarya Opens Up About Her Weight Loss Journey
Sharing a 15-minute video on YouTube, Aishwarya opened up about her full weight loss story and her decision to use Mounjaro for weight loss. She chose transparency instead of typical “glow-up" reels or “what I eat in a day" videos.
According to her video, she weighed 51 kg at the start of 2021, but her weight slowly increased to nearly 70 kg within months. She explained that it wasn't just due to lifestyle changes, but also because conditions like PCOD and hypothyroidism made weight management very difficult for her.
“I stopped making videos. I stopped coming online because I could not see myself," she said.
The “Jawline Goal"
While she struggled with an overall weight gain, she acknowledged that her double chin was her biggest insecurity. In January 2025, Aishwarya began a weight loss effort focused on regaining her jawline through diet and daily exercise. However, a diagnosis of plantar fasciitis and high uric acid levels forced her to stop exercising, leading to weight regain and mental exhaustion. She decided to try a different approach after reviewing blood reports with her doctor in May.
Here Comes Mounjaro
Aishwarya revealed that she used Mounjaro (Tirzepatide), a weekly injection for weight management, which led to rapid results. She revealed in the video that she lost 1 kg in the first week, 4 kg in the first month, and a total of 22 kg over six months, dropping her weight from 74 kg to 52 kg.
While the treatment regulated her periods for the first time in years, she was transparent about the side effects, including initial nausea, intense appetite suppression, and noticeable hair loss caused by the speed of her transformation.
Would Aishwarya Recommend Mounjaro?
Aishwarya firmly stated that she does not recommend the medication to others, emphasising that she is not a medical professional and repeatedly urging viewers to consult a doctor rather than treating her journey as advice. She also highlighted the significant financial barrier, noting that each shot costs approximately ₹4,000, which makes the treatment highly inaccessible for many people.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, this medicine is injected under the skin and given once every week (every 7 days). If you combine this medication with insulin, you should inject them separately. Do not mix them up, and do not administer the injections right next to one another. With each injection, change the injection site (rotate it).
