Coimbatore College Student Gangrape Case: 3 Arrested, Accused Shot In Leg During Police Encounter

Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Saravana Sundar confirmed the arrest of three men accused. Further investigation into the matter is underway.

A woman was allegedly abducted and raped by three men late on Sunday night near Coimbatore International Airport. Now, the three men accused of allegedly gang-raping the woman have been arrested by police authorities.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when the victim and her friend were attacked by the three men near the airport. The men allegedly kidnapped the student, sexually assaulted her, and later fled the scene of the crime. Later, the victim's friend regained consciousness and alerted the authorities, which led to a rescue operation.

As per an IANS report, the victim was later found in a naked condition, severely traumatised in a vacant plot near the airport, and was rushed to a private hospital.

According to the news agency ANI, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Saravana Sundar confirmed the arrest of three men accused.

The news agency further reported that the accused were trying to escape from the spot when the police had to shoot them in the leg in Vellakinaru, on the outskirts of Coimbatore city. The injured accused are Guna, Karuppasamy, and Karthik, also known as Kaleeswaran. All the accused have been sent to GH Coimbatore.

A head constable was also injured in the encounter.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.

The injured have been admitted to a hospital in Coimbatore.

The student is reportedly pursuing her degree at a private college in the city, had been sitting in a parked car and talking to her friend, identified as Vineeth. Suddenly, three unidentified men approached the vehicle, attacked the woman's friend, and forcibly dragged her away into the darkness.

The accused allegedly took turns raping the woman. They then fled the scene and left her injured and in a state of shock.

The Peelamedu police registered a case under relevant sections, including those of kidnapping and gang rape.
