CNG Prices Hiked By 3rd Time In Delhi, To Now Cost Rs 81 Per Kg
CNG prices in the Delhi-NCR region have increased by Re 1 per kg, reaching Rs 81.09 in Delhi and Rs 89.70 in Noida and Ghaziabad. This marks the third price hike within ten days, following earlier increases of Rs 2 and Re 1.
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices in the Delhi-NCR region have been raised by Re 1 per kg, marking the third hike within 10 days. Following the latest revision, CNG will now retail at Rs 81.09 per kg in Delhi, while consumers in Noida and Ghaziabad will pay Rs 89.70 per kg. Earlier this month, CNG prices were increased by Rs 2 on May 15 and by another Re 1 on May 18.
The latest price revision was announced by Indraprastha Gas Limited shortly after petrol and diesel rates were also increased by nearly Rs 1 earlier in the day. The fresh fuel price hikes come amid growing pressure on global energy markets due to rising tensions in the Middle East and the ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial energy route that carries nearly 20% of the world’s oil and gas trade.
Concerns over potential supply disruptions through the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz have led to a sharp spike in global crude oil prices, increasing pressure on fuel markets across several countries, including India. International crude prices have reportedly surged from around $70 per barrel before the conflict to over $100 per barrel now.
Despite the steep rise in global oil rates, India has so far kept domestic fuel price hikes relatively controlled compared to many other nations. According to government data, while fuel prices in several countries have risen anywhere between 20% and nearly 100%, petrol and diesel prices in India have increased by only 3.2% and 3.4%, respectively.
Petrol and diesel prices were hiked again on Saturday, marking the third increase in fuel rates within 10 days. Petrol prices rose by 87 paise per litre, while diesel became costlier by 91 paise. Following the latest revision, petrol in Delhi is now priced at Rs 99.51 per litre, while diesel costs Rs 92.49 per litre. This is the third fuel price hike since May 15, when state-run oil marketing companies began gradually passing on the impact of rising global energy prices triggered by the Middle East conflict.
Fuel rates were first increased by Rs 3 per litre on May 15, followed by another hike of around 90 paise on May 19. With the latest revision, petrol and diesel prices have gone up by nearly Rs 5 per litre in total.
