Children Among 10 Killed As Pakistan Strikes Multiple Provinces Of Afghanistan
Nearly 10 casualties were reported after Pakistan carried out a series of overnight air and drone strikes across multiple provinces in Afghanistan, targeting suspected hideouts of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its faction Jamaat-ul-Ahrar along the Durand Line, intelligence inputs told CNN News18.
The strikes, reported in Kunar, Paktika and Khost provinces, have triggered strong reactions from the Taliban administration, which claims multiple civilian casualties.
According to the inputs, the operations focused on the Barmal area of Paktika province, which intelligence sources described as a stronghold of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar militants.
Drone strikes hit a vehicle near a guest house (hujra), with locals in Barmal claiming heavy explosions were heard shortly after midnight.
Former TTP leader Umar Khalid Khorasani was killed in a blast in the same region in 2022. Jamaat-ul-Ahrar had earlier claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters in Peshawar on Monday.
Another strike was claimed by locals in Kunar province, while Afghan Taliban authorities were still assessing the damage and awaiting complete ground reports.
AFP quoted Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid as saying that at least ten civilians (nine children and one woman) were killed in Khost province.
He added that strikes in Kunar and Paktika wounded four more civilians.
According to AFP, the bombardment followed an unclaimed suicide attack on Pakistan's security forces earlier this week in a province bordering Afghanistan.
The report also claimed that Pakistan has recently blamed militants operating from Afghan soil for a series of attacks, including a suicide blast in Islamabad earlier this month that killed 12 people.
Islamabad alleged that the attackers were guided by a “high command based in Afghanistan."
Tensions have simmered for months, with both countries exchanging cross-border fire in October before entering a fragile truce that has repeatedly come under strain.
Reuters too quoted Mujahid as saying that Pakistani forces bombed the home of a civilian, Wilayat Khan, in Khost's Gerbzwo district.
The report also highlighted that the latest raids followed twin suicide bombings in Peshawar on Monday, which killed three paramilitary personnel.

The agency recalled that both armies had clashed in October, killing dozens, and that ceasefire talks in Turkey later collapsed amid disagreements over anti-Pakistan militant groups operating inside Afghanistan.
