Chi-Chi’s restaurant confirms comeback date: Check location, new menu items, timings
Chi Chi, the Mexican restaurant chain, is returning after two decades. Its first new location opens next week in St. Louis Park. The menu will feature original favorites and new items. The chain plans more locations beyond Minnesota. This comeback follows its 2003 bankruptcy. The original fried ice cream dessert is also returning.
Chi Chi, the iconic Mexican restaurant chain has confirmed the date of its much-awaited comeback after a wait of more than 20 years. Almost two decades after Chi Chi restaurant chain filed for bankruptcy and vanished from the industry. It is all set to make a comeback with its first location set to open next week, reports The Sun.
The fans will also be welcomed with new menu items and a "refreshed design".The location will open on Monday, Oct. 6, in St. Louis Park, bringing with it a “refreshed design” as well as some original and new menu items, the company announced this week.
Michael McDermott, son of Chi-Chi's co-founder Marno McDermott, said in the announcement that the company is “back stronger than ever."
"We're bringing back the food, energy, and fun that people love, now with a fresh twist for a whole new generation,” he said in the release. “We're incredibly grateful to our supporters and investors who have helped make this moment possible, and we can't wait to welcome both familiar and new faces to experience Chi-Chi's.”

Chi Chi restaurants: What's on the menu?
Menu additions include items such as the restaurant's Quesabirria Tacos served with consommé dipping sauce, as well as a Manchego Burger made up of grilled angus beef, manchego cheese, pico de gallo, avocado and chipotle mayonnaise, according to the news release.The chain filed for bankruptcy in October 2003 after numerous people were sickened by green onions served at one of its locations in Pennsylvania. Four people lost their lives and more than 650 fell ill, forcing the chain to pay out compensation and face multiple lawsuits, which triggered severe financial challenges.

Where is the final location?
Its final location closed in 2004, but in December 2024, the chain began planning its comeback. Now, Chi-Chi's has officially confirmed its first revival, set for Minnesota. Starting October 6, fans can visit the brand-new Chi-Chi's in St. Louis Park.The restaurant will feature a "crave-worthy menu" designed for both longtime and new fans, offering a taste of "the brand's revitalized energy," the company said in a statement. "Guests can enjoy a mix of enhanced menu items, original favorites, an upgraded bar experience, and the same great service that made CHI-CHI's a household name over 20 years ago."

What are the timings?
The restaurant will be open between 10am and 11pm Monday to Thursdays, between 11am to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and between 11am and 9pm on Sundays. Fans who aren't living in Minnesota will be pleased to hear that the chain is planning on opening a number of new locations, with this first one being the flagship for the brand's comeback.A quick look at the chain's new website and menu shows that the sweet-treat has returned. For $7 diners will get the vanilla ice cream dessert wrapped in cornflakes and dusted with cinnamon.
