EFL Cup: Chelsea Punch Semi-Finals Ticket With 3-1 Win At Cardiff
Premier League heavyweights Chelsea moved into the semi-final of the EFL Cup on Wednesday following their 3-1 win at Cardiff City as Alejandro Garnacho and Pedro Neto starred for Enzo Maresca and Co.
Garnacho bagged a brace while Neto netted the other to render David Turnbull's strike for Cardiff a mere consolation as the Blues marched on.
Chelsea boss Maresca expressed his appreciation of the fans who had made the trip to Wales for the game thanked them for their support.
“I'm just happy, we're going to play another semi-final and I think it's what the fans deserve," Maresca said.
“It was a great moment, I appreciate, always thankful. In some moments when you don't win games, they have been not happy, but it's normal. But overall, the fans have always been there."
Maresca stated that he hadn't had any interaction with the side's top-brass following reports on the grape-vine of a difference of opinion.
“No, as I said yesterday, the day after Everton, I started to prepare Cardiff. Focus on Cardiff," the Italian said.
“I didn't speak with anyone. I didn't speak, no it's OK. I always said that I've been happy since day one. So it's not that tonight I'm not happy. I'm happy."
Maresca, who led Chelsea to the FIFA Club World Cup title, expressed his delight in being able to guide the Blues to yet another deep run in a tournament.
“Tonight the focus has to be that we reached the semi-final, the support from fans has always been there."
“We are going in the right direction, everything I do is because I want the best for everyone, the fans, players everyone," he said.
“Very happy, especially for the effort of the players. I said yesterday that the schedule is full of these tricky games and so you have to pay attention and we did that."

“These are the kind of games that I fall in love even more with the players because you cannot imagine how easy it is to slip, to slide, because they are tricky games," Maresca said.
“Every season there are teams that they lost against, you know, League Two or League One. You need to pay attention, you need to do the right things," the 45-year-old concluded.
