Chandigarh Police Stops Tata Sierra, Not For Chalan But To Check If The SUV Is ‘Actually That Good’ | Video
Ever since its launch in November, Tata's new SUV Sierra has created a huge buzz among automobile enthusiasts across India. The official deliveries for the car may not have begun yet, but a video on Instagram reiterated the craze it is already generating among Indian car lovers.
In the viral clip, a man claimed that his stunning, yellow-shaded Tata Sierra was asked to stop by Chandigarh Police officers. Usually, such halts are enforced to verify the documents and penalise road violations. As it happened, the officers were reportedly keen to just enter the car and check whether it truly deserved its hype or not.
Chandigarh Police Checks Man's Tata Sierra
The video starts with a man alleging that his Tata Sierra was asked to hit a pause by the Chandigarh Police. Later on, two police officers approached this vibrant-looking SUV. Having asked the Tata Sierra driver to stop the vehicle, one of them entered and started questioning about the vehicle.

During the conversation, the policeman on duty revealed he was set to buy a Mahindra Scorpio but decided to cancel it upon visiting a Tata showroom and watching the Tata Sierra in all its glory. “I cancelled Scorpio and bought Tata Sierra," the officer claimed. The man recording the clip used the conversation and the overall incident to highlight the “craze for Tata Sierra".
Tata Sierra: Colours, Variants And Price
The much-anticipated Tata Sierra SUV comes in seven variants, including the Smart Plus, Pure, Pure Plus, Adventure, Adventure Plus and Accomplished. It is available in six colour options: Bengal Rouge (Red), Andaman Adventure (Yellow), Coorg Clouds (Silver), Munnar Mist (Green), Mintal Grey, and Pristine White. A different Dark Edition of the same is also in work. The car in the video is indeed a Tata Sierra of the Andaman Adventure shade.
As for its prowess, the Tata Sierra arrives in three engine options. The first operates on a 1.5-litre Kryotec turbo diesel with 118 hp of power and 280 nm torque. Among the other two, one arrives with the newly developed 1.5-litre NA petrol engine that offers 106 hp power and 145 nm torque. The third one boasts a 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo petrol engine that offers 160 hp power and 260 nm torque. The SUV has an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 11.49 lakh.
‘It's A Marketing Stunt'
As the video gained traction online, many social media users agreed there is indeed a great hype surrounding Tata's Sierra SUV. However, some were suspicious of the authenticity of the video and accused Tata of playing out a marketing stunt to boost the car's sales.
“It's a marketing stunt," suspected a person, whose sentiments were echoed by several others.
Many still played along with the video and left humorous remarks about the incident.
Someone quipped, “The driver must have felt really scared first up."
“Police wale bhi Sierra ke fan (the police too is the fan of Tata Sierra)."

The suspicions were raised partly since the official deliveries for the Tata Sierra don't begin until January 15, 2026. While interested customers can book the SUV online or at their nearest Tata dealership since December 16, 2025, they will have to wait till the middle of January to get it delivered.
