Chakai is one of the 243 legislative assembly constituencies in Bihar, located in Jamui district. It is part of the Jamui (SC) parliamentary constituency and is a General category seat. What happened in 2020?
In the 2020 assembly elections, Chakai had 2,87,038 registered electors, with 1,89,645 valid votes cast. Independent candidate Sumit Kumar Singh emerged victorious, securing 45,548 votes. He narrowly defeated RJD's Savitri Devi, who received 44,967 votes, with a margin of just 581 votes. In 2015, the constituency saw RJD's Savitri Devi winning the seat with 47,064 votes, while Independent candidate Sumit Kumar Singh finished second with 34,951 votes, losing by 12,113. The 2010 elections were another tight contest, with Sumit Kumar Singh, then representing the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, winning 21,809 votes.Lok Jan Shakti Party's Bijay Kumar Singh was a close runner-up with 21,621 votes, leaving a margin of only 188 votes. Earlier, in October 2005, BJP's Phalguni won the constituency with 24,975 votes, defeating JD(U)'s Arjun Mandal, who secured 19,292 votes, by a margin of 5,683.
