Can You Carry Alcohol On Trains? Here’s What Indian Railways Says
The Indian Railways has once again made it clear that passengers are strictly prohibited from carrying alcohol or any intoxicating substances on trains. Railway officials have warned that carrying a liquor bottle during a train journey can lead to serious legal action. This rule is being enforced more strictly during the festive and holiday season, when trains are often packed with passengers.
According to railway authorities, carrying or consuming alcohol on trains poses a serious safety risk. Intoxicated passengers can misbehave with fellow travellers, cause inconvenience, and even compromise the overall security of the train.
This is why the Railways have imposed a complete ban on alcohol inside trains. Even railway employees involved in train operations are prohibited from consuming alcohol, and doing so is treated as a serious offence.
While the Indian Railways allows passengers to carry more luggage compared to buses or flights, this does not include liquor. Many travellers mistakenly believe it's acceptable to carry alcohol for personal use, but under the Railways Act, doing so is illegal. If a passenger is found carrying alcohol, they may face a fine and even legal proceedings.
During the festive rush, when millions of passengers travel back home, the Railways have urged everyone to follow this rule strictly. In states where liquor prohibition is in effect, carrying alcohol across state borders can lead to even harsher penalties.
Therefore, passengers are advised to respect railway regulations to ensure a safe and peaceful journey for all.
