Chirag Paswan, LJP (Ram Vilas) chief, has dismissed any aspirations for Bihar's CM post in 2025, setting his sights on 2030 and 2035. He emphasized LJP(RV)'s commitment to strengthening the NDA in the upcoming elections, affirming support for Nitish Kumar as the CM candidate.
Union Minister and LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has firmly ruled out a run for Bihar's top post in 2025, making it clear that his political ambitions are set for 2030 and 2035. Instead, he stressed that his party's priority is to strengthen the NDA in the upcoming assembly elections. In his signature style, he remarked, “Someone might say I cannot cook dal on my own, but I can certainly act as namak.”
Speaking to NDTV, Paswan reiterated that the CM candidate is decided collectively by alliance partners. “In this election, all NDA partners are unanimous on CM Nitish Kumar,” he said, putting to rest internal speculation about his party projecting him for the top job. “Ambition takes you forward, and I surely have mine. But any such discussion for 2025 creates confusion,” he added.
Paswan's LJP(RV) had played a spoiler role in the 2020 assembly polls, undermining JD(U) and pushing Nitish Kumar's party to a third-place finish with just 43 seats. This time around, Paswan insists that his party will focus on giving a push to NDA allies. “We may not win many seats on our own, but we can give a push of 10,000 to 25,000 votes in every seat,” he claimed.
The LJP(RV) chief also highlighted his party's flawless record in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where it won all five seats it contested in Bihar. “I have in mind the seats and candidates. A formal discussion in NDA on seat-sharing will be held soon,” he said, signalling that the party is already gearing up for a strategic campaign.
Paswan dismissed speculation about any post-poll alliance with Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party, stressing, “We have never had a post-poll alliance.” He also took aim at the opposition INDIA bloc, noting, “Rahul Gandhi visits Bihar but does not announce the alliance CM face. In 2020, one of their partners quit after the poll notification,” referring to Mukesh Sahani, who had left the RJD-led alliance to join NDA but now finds himself with the opposition.
On the issue of HAM(S) founder Jitan Ram Manjhi's demand for at least 15 seats from NDA, or threatening to contest 50 to 100 seats independently, Paswan brushed it off as pre-election posturing. “No one can predict the future. Hardly anybody thought my party would contest the Bihar election out of NDA in 2020,” he said.
With LJP(RV) positioning itself as the “namak” in the NDA mix, Bihar's 2025 polls promise strategic alliances, subtle manoeuvres, and political fireworks, long before the first vote is cast.
