Bugonia OTT Release Date Confirmed: Here’s Where To Watch Emma Stone's Thriller Online
After making waves on the international festival circuit and earning critical acclaim, Emma Stone’s psychological black comedy Bugonia is now preparing for its digital debut. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and written by Will Tracy, the film reimagines the 2003 South Korean cult classic Save the Green Planet! by Jang Joon-hwan through Lanthimos’ signature absurdist lens.
The film premiered in the main competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival on August 28, 2025, before releasing theatrically on October 24. It went on to receive generally positive reviews, with particular praise directed at the performances of Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons.
Bugonia OTT Streaming Details
The thriller will begin streaming on JioHotstar from February 28, 2026. Announcing the release, the platform shared the trailer on X and wrote:
“Two guys are convinced their boss is an alien. Now they’re determined to do something about it. Nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actress, Bugonia streaming February 28 onwards on the Peacock Hub on JioHotstar."
With its awards-season buzz and unconventional premise, the film is expected to draw both Lanthimos loyalists and new viewers intrigued by its surreal edge.
What Is Bugonia About?
At its core, Bugonia is a darkly comic psychological thriller that spirals into paranoia and delusion. The story follows Teddy, a conspiracy-obsessed man convinced that the world is on the brink of collapse. His fixation intensifies when he becomes certain that Michelle, a powerful biotech CEO, is actually an extraterrestrial from the Andromeda galaxy plotting humanity’s destruction.
Driven by this belief, Teddy abducts her — setting off a chain of unsettling and absurd events. The film explores themes of anxiety, ecological breakdown, power dynamics and the fragile line between paranoia and conviction.
Cast And Crew
The film stars Emma Stone as Michelle Fuller and Jesse Plemons as Teddy Gatz. Aidan Delbis plays Don, while Alicia Silverstone appears as Sandy Gatz and Stavros Halkias as Casey Boyd.
Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and written by Will Tracy, Bugonia continues Lanthimos’ exploration of distorted realities and uncomfortable truths, blending psychological tension with biting dark humour.
With its OTT release now locked in, audiences can soon experience the unsettling world of Bugonia from the comfort of their homes.
