Bobby Deol Reveals If He Overshadowed Ranbir Kapoor In Animal: 'Mere 15 Minute Ka Koi Value Nahi Hota Agar...'

When Animal hit theatres in 2023, filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga not only unleashed a darker, more primal side of Ranbir Kapoor but also resurrected Bobby Deol into cinematic glory. The film, a brutal blend of love, rage, and family dysfunction, became one of the year's biggest blockbusters — despite polarizing audiences for its depiction of violence and masculinity. Amid the storm, one thing everyone agreed on was Bobby Deol's electrifying presence as Abrar Haque — a character that, with barely 15 minutes of screen time and zero dialogues, became a nationwide obsession.

But how does Bobby feel about fans who claim he “overshadowed" Ranbir Kapoor?

Bobby Deol Reacts to Comparisons with Ranbir Kapoor

In a recent conversation with Filmygyan, Bobby Deol addressed a fan's comment suggesting that his performance outshone Ranbir's in Animal. His response was pure humility. “Aisa kuchh nahi hai. Agar Ranbir ko 3 ghante sambhaalne the, mujhe sirf 15 minute sambhaalne the. Agar Ranbir woh 3 ghante nahi sambhaal paata toh mere 15 minute ka koi value nahi hota," he said.

The actor credited Ranbir's intensity and craft for giving Abrar's short-lived arc its larger-than-life impact, “It happened because of how Ranbir performed his character. If he hadn't done it right, my entry wouldn't have meant anything," Bobby explained, acknowledging the delicate balance between hero and villain that makes a story resonate.

“A Film Only Works When Both Sides Are Strong"

Bobby further reflected on how Animal's success stemmed from the interplay between two equally powerful forces — the protagonist and the antagonist, “See, an action film, a drama, only works when you have a strong antagonist and a strong protagonist. Both have to work towards winning. It can't be that you know from the start who's going to win. Then it's no fun — not for the audience either," he said.

His portrayal of Abrar Haque — fierce, silent, and magnetic — became one of Bollywood's most talked-about comebacks. The viral “Jamal Kudu" entry song alone turned Bobby into a meme, a mood, and a movement.

The Road Ahead: Animal Park

While Bobby's character met his end in Animal, the story is far from over. Ranbir Kapoor is set to reprise his role in Animal Park, the much-anticipated sequel that promises to dive deeper into the psychological warfare introduced in the first film. The actor confirmed that the shoot will begin in 2027, setting the stage for another intense chapter in the Animal universe.

As for Bobby Deol, the “Lord Bobby" era shows no sign of slowing down — and if Animal was any indication, his next roar might just echo louder.
