BMC election 2026 result: Govinda hails "new vision" for Mumbai after BJP-Shinde Sena win
In the wake of the BMC election results, actor Govinda, who is also a prominent Shiv Sena leader, expressed his aspirations for a thriving Mumbai. He emphasized that effective governance is crucial for the city's ongoing prosperity. With an optimistic shift in the creative landscape, he noted that artists now feel more secure, paving the way for unbridled innovation.
Mumbai: Reacting to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election results, actor and Shiv Sena leader Govinda on Sunday shared his vision for the overall development and growth of Mumbai, emphasising the need for good governance and sustained progress.
Speaking to ANI, Govinda stressed the importance of good governance, stating that the city's progress must remain the foremost priority.
"I believed that this government would win, and I want Mumbai to move forward toward progress. The way other cities have been developing side-by-side, Mumbai should move in the same direction. This is a new vision where the world would recognise the state in the form of its growth and functions, the same way the world has acknowledged our cinema, art and culture," the actor said.
Earlier this month, Govinda actively campaigned for the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena in the BMC elections, seeking public support.
Govinda rode through Mumbai's Kamathipura in an open jeep as part of the campaign. Large crowds gathered on the streets to see him, take pictures, and cheer for the actor.
While speaking to ANI, Govinda explained why people from the film industry should take an interest in politics and public life. He also shared how he feels the atmosphere has changed in recent years, making people from the creative field feel more secure.
"Good art cannot flourish unless there is a good atmosphere. After so many years, we are now seeing a positive atmosphere. Otherwise, with a famous name, respect, fame, wealth, we've seen all sorts of troubles connected to these," he told ANI.
"Since this government came to power, it now feels like we can move forward, we can work, and there won't be troubles. We've come out of this fear, and the current government has played a big role in helping us with that," he added.
According to official figures released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the BMC, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single-largest party, winning 89 seats.
Its alliance partner, the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, secured 29 seats with 2,73,326 votes, translating into 5.00 per cent of the total vote share. Together, the BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde) alliance emerged as the largest bloc in the civic body.
