BJP’s 'Chargesheet' Infiltration Charge Against TMC Draws ‘What About Pahalgam’ Counter Ahead Of Bengal Elections
The West Bengal Assembly elections are less than a month away, and the campaigning has intensified across the state, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) locking horns. In the latest high-voltage political exchange, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday targeted the TMC by releasing a “chargesheet", criticising Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly allowing infiltrators into the country.
“Mamata Didi has always played the politics of the victim card. Sometimes she talks about her injury, sometimes she abuses the Election Commission. But the people of Bengal now understand Mamata Didi’s victim-card politics very well," Shah said in Kolkata.

The Home Minister further claimed that the state government had not cooperated in strengthening border infrastructure. “The TMC government has not provided land for erecting fences in bordering areas, despite several attempts to convince the state government. This is because the TMC wants to create a vote bank of infiltrators," he alleged.
Raising the issue of voter eligibility, Shah said, “I want to ask the people of Bengal – should those infiltrators who have been allowed to stay here be given the right to vote? I want to make it clear from the BJP’s side that we will not only remove infiltrators from the voter list, but we will remove each and every illegal immigrant from the country."
Shortly after his remarks, senior TMC leaders hit back, accusing the BJP of trying to polarise voters ahead of the elections. Leaders including Bratya Basu, Kirti Azad and Mahua Moitra addressed a press conference, rejecting the allegations.
Moitra questioned the Centre’s record on internal security, saying, “Shah should first answer about violence in Manipur, which has bled continuously for the past three years."
Basu also challenged Shah’s claims on infiltration, pointing out the BJP’s role at the Centre and in several border states. “BJP rules in the Centre. It rules 15 states and most border states through which infiltration is happening. Amit Shah himself is the Union Home Minister. So what exactly has he been waiting for?" he said.
He further criticised the Election Commission, asking why the “BJP-controlled" body had not released details of foreign nationals allegedly present in voter lists.
The TMC leaders also accused the BJP of attempting to create divisions. Basu claimed the party was trying to “blur the line" between Bengalis and Bangladeshis, while Moitra raised questions about law and order under BJP rule.
“Manipur has bled for three years. The Parliament was attacked under BJP’s watch. (As many as) 26 people were killed in Pahalgam. Was a single person caught ?" Moitra said.
Referring to past incidents, she added, “Home Minister controls Delhi. These are his record," mentioning the Red Fort blast and other attacks.
West Bengal will vote in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4.
