BJP leaders in Manipur, including former CM N Biren Singh, meet Central leaders to discuss formation of popular government
Manipur BJP leaders, led by former CM N. Biren Singh, are in Delhi to meet central leaders. Their agenda includes forming a popular government, addressing the IDP crisis, and reopening key highways, as the state remains under President's Rule since February. Other MLAs and Governor Bhalla are also engaging with central figures regarding the state's future.
Guwahati: BJP leaders in Manipur including former chief minister N Biren Singh will soon meet Central leaders to discuss the formation of a popular government.
Manipur has been under President's rule since February. Before leaving for the national capital, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, while speaking to the media at the Imphal International Airport, said a delegation is heading to Delhi to meet central leaders.
“Would urge the central leaders to facilitate the formation of a new popular government, resolve the crisis faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs) and reopen key highways at the earliest,” he said.
Former Health and Family Welfare Minister Sapam Ranjan Singh, former Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo Singh, and BJP legislator Tongbram Robindro Singh accompanied Biren Singh to Delhi on Saturday.
On Saturday, a group of MLAs, including former minister Leishangthem Susindro Meitei, Thangjam Arunkumar and Lourembam Rameshwor Meetei, all BJP MLAs, had separately left Imphal for Delhi.
Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, former minister Govindas Konthoujam and MLAs Kongkham Robindro, Sapam Kunjakeshwor, Thounaojam Shyamkumar and Karam Shyam are also expected to leave Imphal on Sunday.
The 60-member Manipur Assembly, which, after the promulgation of President's Rule, has been put under suspended animation, has a tenure till 2027.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla is already in New Delhi. Bhalla, a former Home Secretary, met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday and called on Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Friday at the Vice-President's Enclave in New Delhi.
Demanding money
Manipur police have stated it has been reported that few illegal organizations are demanding money from Police personnel of Churachandpur. It is hereby instructed to the rank and file of Churachandpur District police to abstain from yielding to the demand. Further the aggrieved personnel are instructed to contact the office of Superintendent of Police, Churachandpur District in case of any exigency.
The security forces have arrested 12 dreaded militants of different banned outfits, including five cadres of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) from different districts of Manipur during the past 24 hours, officials said on Saturday.
A police official said that the security forces, including Assam Rifles, arrested five dreaded and active cadres of UKNA from Songkot village area in Churachandpur district.
The UKNA is an outlawed Kuki extremist outfit, active mainly in the hill districts of Manipur.
