‘Sir, Maro Mat’: Bengaluru Traffic Cop Slaps Man On Bike During Routine Check, Suspended— ‘This Is Unacceptable’
A traffic police constable was caught physically assaulting a two-wheeler rider during a routine check in Bengaluru. The incident, which took place last October, has come back into the spotlight after a video resurfaced online. The footage has reignited discussions about police conduct and accountability.
According to a Times of India report, the incident occurred during a traffic enforcement drive near the busy Silk Board area on October 13. The drive began shortly after 11 AM, following verbal instructions issued to traffic personnel across Bengaluru to act against riders violating one-way traffic rules.
What Led To The Confrontation?
The situation unfolded under the Silk Board flyover when two people on a two-wheeler were spotted riding against the one-way restriction. The rider was stopped by traffic personnel from the Madiwala traffic police station.
The head constable involved was later identified as Mallikarjuna Teli, who was assisting an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) at the spot. His role included stopping vehicles and issuing spot fines for violations.
Bengaluru Traffic Cop Slaps Two-Wheeler Rider
As per the report, Mallikarjuna stopped the two-wheeler and asked the rider to pay a fine for riding against the one-way. The rider, identified as Nitesh and said to be from Kerala, questioned the authority of the police to stop vehicles and collect spot fines.
During the exchange, Nitesh argued that he was aware of instructions which, according to him, stated that vehicles were not supposed to be stopped for spot case registration. The disagreement soon turned heated.
It was during this argument that Mallikarjuna slapped the rider while he was still wearing his helmet.
Assault Captured On Camera
After being hit, Nitesh removed his helmet and questioned the constable, asking, “Sir, mara kyu mere ko? (Sir, why did you hit me?)." Instead of responding, the constable struck him again.
Nitesh then warned the officer against assaulting him and said the matter would escalate if he was hit again, saying, “Kuch bada ho jayega (Something tragic will happen)." He further said, “Sir maro mat. Mere ko maar kyu rahe ho? Mai kuch bola? (Sir, don't hit me. Why are you hitting me? Did I say anything?)"
According to the report, the ASI present at the scene instructed that the argument be recorded and asked for Hoysala police to be called so the rider could be handed over to law-and-order police. The pillion rider recorded the entire incident on his mobile phone, which later surfaced online.
Hats off to the man for having kept his calm and responded back to the police officer in the same coin. I would suggest him to file an online FIR against this police officer – respect works both ways. This was totally unprofessional and unprovoked. pic.twitter.com/DPLawvQ4et

What People Are Saying Online
After the video reappeared, it drew strong reactions online with several users criticising the constable's conduct.
One user commented, “Hats off to the man for having kept his calm and responded back to the police officer in the same coin. I would suggest him to file an online FIR against this police officer – respect works both ways. This was totally unprofessional and unprovoked."
Another wrote, “Simply unacceptable, this is pure Dadagiri. What is the difference between them and the gundas? Police should gain respect – such acts will surely make citizens lose respect and confidence in the police."
“The right to enforce the law does not mean the right to break it. Raising a hand without reason is not power, but abuse, and it is completely illegal. Justice must be served for this boy," someone else said.
