Bengaluru ‘Poor’ Road Horror: Man Undergoes Surgery After Bike Fall, Faces Rs 6 Lakh Medical Bill — ‘Sue Civic Authority’
Bengaluru is once again in the spotlight after a viral video highlighted how a “poorly constructed speed breaker" left a two-wheeler rider severely injured. In the clip, a woman explains that her friend met with a major accident and had to be rushed to the hospital, where doctors informed him he required major surgery.
She flew to Bengaluru to be by his side and later learned that he now has six metal plates in his body, will struggle with mobility for months, and is facing heavy medical expenses. She added that the treatment cost has already reached around Rs 6 lakh.
In her post, she questioned why basic road safety is still ignored and pointed out that a proper repair would have cost far less than the physical and emotional damage her friend is facing. She said many people had close calls because of potholes and uneven roads, and it is unfair that citizens are risking their lives every day. She urged officials in Bengaluru to fix the roads or stop allowing two-wheelers altogether.
‘Why Are There Potholes?'
Taking to Instagram, the woman explained, “My friend's two-wheeler lost control due to a poorly constructed speed breaker. We immediately flew to Bengaluru and found out he will need to go through surgery. The next time you find your loved one in a hospital due to a road accident, try asking who is actually responsible. Why helmet is crucial, but an unmarked speed breaker is fine? Why are speeding tickets important, but there are no fines for broken footpaths? Why are there potholes? Why are there no signals? Why do our roads remain dug up year after year? How long do we call it bad luck and which astrologer can fix this? Why is it always the driver's negligence but never the MLA's failure?"
She explains that everyone deserves safe, well-maintained roads, regardless of their income or background. People spend hours commuting every single day, yet road safety rarely becomes a priority during elections. She criticises political parties for focusing on issues that don't impact people's daily lives, while ignoring basic problems like broken roads. She adds that even in Goa, she often returns home frustrated because the roads are frequently dug up and left in poor condition.
“My friend is now being handed over a health bill of Rs 6 Lakhs, went through a life threatening surgery, came out with 6 metal plates in his body, he'll be immobile for the next 6 months, suffering unbearable pain, putting his physical, mental health, his job and finances at risk again. Surely the cost of fixing that one speed breaker is less than the price my friend has to pay. Each of us have faced moments where a pothole almost took our lives. This is unacceptable and outrageous. Asking your citizens to risk their lives every day while you sleep on your responsibilities is outrageous. So I request you, dear leaders, fix our roads or ban two wheelers," she added.

Social Media Users React With Anger And Criticism
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “No point in posting such videos on social media. I'm sorry to say this, but no one will do anything in this country. All they wanna do is take our money and enjoy their life."
Another shared, “The roads all over our country are the same. Singling out Bengaluru like it's the only place on earth with potholes/incorrectly fixed potholes doesn't seem right."
“It's a tragedy that in India there is no accountability for road safety, no proper road design and maintenance. Poor co-relationship from BBMP, BWSSB and Traffic is a well known thing in Bangalore. The temporary fixes actually destroy more road. Poor planning and fixing is going out of hand. It's just a blame game related to city Infra, where they spend nearly 20000 crore annually, is a big joke," a comment read.
An individual stated, “If you can drive in Bengaluru properly. You can drive anywhere in the world."

One more added, “Bengaluru is nothing but an artificially created hype, Gurgaon is another joke. It's high time Indians realise this and lower their expectations."
In the comments section, the woman mentioned that her friend had been riding his two-wheeler at a normal speed of around 40–50 km per hour. She added that even driving slowly cannot guarantee safety when the roads are in such terrible condition.
