Goa has long been a favourite beach destination for Indian travellers, celebrated for its vibrant parties, delicious food and stunning sea views. However, recent concerns about rising prices, poor cleanliness, traffic jams, and a lack of basic civic sense have dampened the experience for many visitors.
Amid this, a viral post by an Indian traveller has sparked widespread discussion. After spending nine days on Sri Lanka's southern coast, he shared that his perspective had changed so much that he no longer felt like visiting Goa again. The video quickly gained traction, prompting others to join the conversation and share their own travel experiences.
Traveller Thinks Sri Lanka Is Better Than Goa
The post shared on X (Formerly Twitter) came with the caption, “Spent 9 days on Sri Lanka's southern coast. No offence to anyone, but I don't think I'll be visiting Goa again."

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “Have been to many beach destinations – Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesian islands and the Andamans recently. Goa may not be as beautiful or tourist-friendly as those places, but its hippie and party scene is unmatchable. Koh Phangan might be the only island that comes close. and no, I am not talking about the full moon party, iykyk."
Another shared, “Are there beach shacks in Sri Lanka? The main attraction in Goa is those beach shacks."
“We went to Jafna, a war-torn city, and even that was better than some of our tourist spots. We are doing something horribly wrong to be in this state," a comment read.
An individual stated, “I stopped visiting Goa when I first experienced Varkala. Small beach towns offer way more great experiences than Goa."
Another mentioned, “The biggest mistake you made is telling this in public. Now, Indians will make it worse than Goa."
One more added, “Gokarna, Goa, Kerala and Andaman, so many great beaches. India had everything: beaches, mountains and snow. India is underrated."
Practical Tips For Sri Lanka Trips
The user who shared their travel experience also gave helpful tips for visitors planning to go to Sri Lanka. He mentioned that Indian travellers need to fill out a Digital Arrival Card for immigration, while people from other countries may require different documents. He explained that their own trip focused only on Sri Lanka's southern coast, so it may not cover everything. For travellers who want to explore the beach towns, he suggested places like Hiriketiya, Mirissa, Ahangama, Unawatuna and a one-day trip to Galle.
