Bengaluru Feels The Heat This Winter As Festive Rush Pushes Mutton Prices Up

Bengaluru residents are not just shivering in the winter chill but also grappling with soaring meat prices. The Silicon City is experiencing unusually cold weather accompanied by strong winds, and with festive demand surging ahead of Christmas and New Year, mutton prices are skyrocketing, nearing the Rs 1,000 mark.

The extreme cold has affected sheep growth, reducing the supply of mutton. Transportation costs have also risen due to harsh weather, further pushing prices upward. Currently, mutton is being sold at around Rs 900 per kilogram, and experts predict it may reach Rs 1,000 next week if the demand continues to remain high.

Chicken prices have also seen a sharp rise. Previously priced between Rs 230 and 240 per kilogram, the cost has now surged to Rs 300-310 per kilogram. The combination of falling poultry production and festive-season demand has created a perfect storm for price inflation, leaving meat lovers struggling to manage their usual festive meals.

This unexpected price spike comes at a time when people are turning to non-vegetarian food to combat the cold, further intensifying demand. The surge has caused frustration among residents who now have to rethink their meat purchases, especially amid ongoing discussions about the health impacts of excessive egg and meat consumption.

Suppliers say the cold wave has disrupted both sheep and poultry production, creating a supply-demand imbalance. With the festive season driving higher consumption, both mutton and chicken have reached their highest prices in the past month.

For Bengaluru's non-veg lovers, the winter chill has brought more than just goosebumps; it has also sent meat prices soaring to levels rarely seen before. With the peak of Christmas and New Year celebrations still ahead, the city braces for a continued surge in mutton and chicken rates, making festive feasts costlier than ever.
