Banks Likely Shut For Four Days From Tomorrow Due To Holidays, Strike: Check Details
Upcoming Bank Holidays: With no resort seemingly on the horizon for the all-India bank strike to be scheduled to demand a five-day work week, banks are likely to shut down for four continuous days from tomorrow, January 24 to Tuesday, January 27.
The closure of banks will be nationwide, meaning physical branches will be inoperative for the next four days.
During bank holidays, customers can continue to access services through net banking, mobile banking, UPI, and ATMs. However, cheque clearing and other over-the-counter services under the Negotiable Instruments Act will not be available.
Banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays, along with all Sundays as part of weekend holidays. Thus, banks will be closed tomorrow, January 24, 2026 across India.
Banks across India remain closed on Sunday.
On the occasion of India's Republic Day, banks will be shut down across India. All physical branches will remain inoperative.
The country will celebrate the 77th Republic Day, marking 76 full years since the Constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950.
If the strike goes ahead, banks will remain closed on January 27, 2026 too. Bank unions say a five-day work week would reduce work pressure, improve efficiency, and allow employees more time with their families. Most central government offices and financial institutions in India already follow a five-day schedule—bank staff want the same.
To ensure customer services aren't affected, the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has proposed working 40 extra minutes a day from Monday to Friday. The forum points out that RBI, LIC, GIC, stock markets, forex and money markets already remain closed on Saturdays.
