Bangladeshi national held with fake Indian IDs in Bengal

A Bangladeshi national was caught with Indian identity cards in Bengdubi, Darjeeling. This occurred during a security drive and document check of civil personnel. The individual possessed an Aadhaar card, PAN card, and Voter ID. He was handed over to the police for further investigation. This incident highlights the ongoing efforts to enhance military station security and identify potential threats.
Kolkata: One Bangladeshi national was nabbed with Indian Identity cards in North Bengal's Bengdubi in Darjeeling district, a day after SIR started in Bengal on November 4, as part of the security drive and during checking of documents of all civil personnel employed as labour was carried out, PRO-MoD said.
“One of the labourers was found suspicious and following investigation and search, he was found to be in possession of Bangladesh nationality Identity card, MoD said. He was also in possession of an ADHAR card, PAN Card and Voter ID card. The individual was handed over to Police for further investigation," MoD said.
“As part of the renewed security apparatus of the Bengdubi Military Station, a re-verification drive of all civil personnel was being carried out,” it said. “The incident reflects the alertness of military intelligence agencies and troops on ground to identify any potential threats to security of military stations,” MoD said in a statement.
The incident highlights the fact that a large number of Bangladeshi nationals are in possession of Indian nationality documents made fraudulently and are using it extensively to gain employment within the country, sources informed. This drive will continue at varied intervals.
2.72 crore EFs distributed
More than 2.72 crore enumeration forms have been distributed by the BLOs in the first four days of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal. The SIR started in West Bengal on November 4.
West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (WB-CEO) Manoj Agarwal Election has reportedly sought a report from the District Election Office (DEO)-Jalpaiguri today on Rajganj BDO Prashant Barman. The BDO allegedly did not come to his office during the SIR exercise and there are allegations of kidnapping and murder against this BDO.
WB-CEO has sought a report from the DEO during today's meeting, which will be sent to ECI, sources informed.
