Australian Telecom Telstra To Cut 650+ Jobs, Outsource Some Work To Infosys
Australian telecom firm Telstra will chop off over 650 jobs as part of business restructuring, with some work to be outsourced with Indian IT company Infosys.
According to ABC News, citing the company's emails to employees by CEO Vicki Brady, employees were notified of more than 400 other potential job losses.
“These proposals are intended to help us reduce complexity, be more competitive and operate more efficiently and sustainably," Ms Brady wrote to staff, as reported by ABC News.
This is in alignment of the company's five-year strategy under Connected Future 30, where it will integrate artificial intelligence into the business.
The latest staff cuts are in addition to that round of redundancies.
Earlier, Telstra had informed that 209 jobs would be cut from its AI joint venture with Accenture.
The company is offering two options to affected employees, according to ABC News. They can either switch to Infosys or go for redundancy.
Under the first option, the employees can submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to work with Infosys. The decision for qualification will be dependent on the joint assessment being done by Telstra and Infosys.
If employees don't submit an EOI, or if they submit an EOI but are not selected, they will go into the redundancy process.
Regarding this latest round of redundancies, Ms Brady told staff: “I understand this news may be challenging to hear, but I am confident these proposals are the right ones to help us become more simple and competitive as we continue to build momentum behind our Connected Future 30 strategy."
“Our Telstra team will be able to apply for open roles at Telstra, and the JV team will be able to apply for open roles at Telstra or Accenture.
