Astrome, Azista, Dhruva Space to build satellite bus platforms under IN-SPACe scheme
The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe), the commercial arm of ISRO, on Wednesday announced the selection of three private companies to build indigenous small satellite platforms under its “Satellite Bus as a Service” (SBaaS) initiative.
Astrome Technologies, Azista Industries, and Dhruva Space were selected after a multi-stage evaluation of 15 proposals post the announcement of the initiative in April 2025.
The SBaaS model will ease access to flight-ready satellite platforms for startups and private players. These satellite bus platforms will be positioned as cost-effective, standardised options catering to domestic as well as global demand. The move is aimed at reducing entry barriers for payload developers while strengthening local manufacturing capabilities, IN-SPACe said in a statement.
“The Satellite Bus as a Service initiative marks an important step in building a robust, sustainable, and globally competitive small satellite manufacturing ecosystem in India,” said Pawan Goenka, chairman, IN-SPACe.
He added that integrating the two — manufacturing small satellites and satellite bus platforms with small satellites — would help the country to become a preferred destination for launch and hosted payload services.
Under the guidelines, grant disbursement will be milestone-linked. IN-SPACe will also facilitate access to ISRO and Department of Space infrastructure, testing facilities, and technical expertise. In later phases, the regulator plans to enable hosted payload missions on these platforms, expanding public-private partnership programmes from platform development to operational missions.
The announcement comes amid a broader push by IN-SPACe to build private sector capacity in satellite platforms and Earth observation. Recently, it signed a concession agreement with a Pixxel-led consortium for establishing an Earth observation constellation under a public-private partnership framework.
Rajeev Jyoti, Director, technical directorate, IN-SPACe, said, "By providing standardised and flight-proven satellite bus platforms for hosted payload missions, IN-SPACe aims to reduce entry barriers for payload developers while strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities."
