Ashmit Patel Shares First Impression Of Navi Mumbai Airport: ‘No Architectural Genius Happening Here’
India's Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) officially became part of the country's commercial aviation map on December 25 when it began operations. Since then, passengers and aviation enthusiasts have been sharing their first-hand experiences at the new airport. Among them, actor Ashmit Patel recently shared his impressions after landing there for the first time.
Ashmit took to Instagram to post a video detailing his journey and observations. He admitted he was excited to see the airport not just for its architecture but also because the runway is surrounded by lush hills. “This is my first time landing at the Navi Mumbai airport, and I was super excited, not just for the exterior and interior of the building but for the landing as well, because the airport is surrounded by hills and supposedly really lush and green," he said. But foggy weather limited the view.

Still, Ashmit was eager to explore the terminal building but shared that his excitement faded quickly. “No architectural genius happening here," he remarked. He added that his hopes for a spectacular interior were also unmet.
“Firstly, the vibe wasn't just there – the airport felt dark, construction was still going on and visually, it didn't just feel welcoming," he said.
He also highlighted missing basic amenities such as a proper network and data connectivity. “Secondly, the basics were missing – no proper network, data barely worked on my phone, and even the airport connectivity felt unreliable. That's the last thing you want after a flight," Ashmit noted.
Services, Food And Transport
Food options and brand variety were another disappointment for the actor. “Food and brands were another letdown – just 1 or 2 cafes for an international airport. I mean, come on, you expect variety and choice," he said. Ground transport posed a bigger challenge, with cab availability being “messy and intercity booking was impossible."
Despite the criticism, Ashmit stayed optimistic about the airport's future. “So all in all, when you compare it to Mumbai's T2 Terminal, this one still has a long way to go. But guys, it's a work in progress, and I am an eternal optimist. So, I'm hoping that in years to come, this will be a world-class international airport that we will all be proud of," he added.

Ashmit's video caught attention online and sparked a variety of reactions, with one user commenting, “As an aviation geek, let me tell you that airport constructions are divided in phases. This is phase one in which only basics are completed. After 2-3 years, it will be very beautiful."

Who Is Ashmit Patel?
Ashmit Patel is an Indian actor and the brother of Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel. He made his film debut in Inteha in 2003, but he is perhaps best known for his role in the 2004 thriller Murder, co-starring Mallika Sherawat and Emraan Hashmi.
