Ash clouds from Ethiopia volcano to move away from India by 7.30 PM

Ash clouds from Ethiopia's Hayli Gubbi volcano are drifting eastwards towards China, expected to clear Indian skies by 7:30 pm. The eruption, the first in nearly 10,000 years, impacted Indian flight operations on Monday, with advisories issued to avoid affected airspace.
Ash clouds from Ethiopia's Hayli Gubbi volcano are drifting eastwards towards China, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) told PTI on Tuesday, with the ash expected to clear Indian skies by 7.30 pm.
Ash plumes from the recent eruption also impacted flight operations in India on Monday, where several flights across airlines have been cancelled.
IMD said that forecast models indicated ash influence over Gujarat, Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana.

IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra told PTI that the ash clouds are now drifting towards China and will move away from Indian skies by 7.30 pm. "High-level winds carried the ash cloud from Ethiopia across the Red Sea to Yemen and Oman and further over the Arabian Sea towards western and northern India," the IMD said in a statement
These advisories included directions to avoid affected airspace and flight levels identified in the VAAC bulletins, PTI said. The IMD added that continuous monitoring of MET and ash advisories is used for flight planning, including adjustments to routing and fuel calculations based on alternate paths.
Flights over the region may face rerouting, longer flight times, or holding patterns.
A massive ash cloud from Ethiopia's Hayli Gubbi volcano erupted after the long-dormant volcano erupted for the first time in nearly 10,000 years, the Toulouse Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC) reported. The explosive eruption began around 8:30 am UTC on Sunday, according to the VAAC. The volcano, located in Ethiopia's Erta Ale Range, last erupted approximately 10,000 to 12,000 years ago.
The IMD said it closely monitored satellite imagery, advisories from Volcanic Ash Advisory Centres (VAACs), and dispersion models. Its Met Watch Offices in Mumbai, New Delhi, and Kolkata issued ICAO-standard Significant Meteorological Information (SIGMET) warnings to airports.
