‘As If They Are Interested’: Rijiju Hits Back At Congress For Questioning Shortened Winter Session
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday took a jibe at Congress over its criticism of the short duration of the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament, and accused the party of disrupting proceedings rather than participating in debates.
In a response to Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, who questioned why the Winter Session had been scheduled later and for a shorter duration than usual, Rijiju said that Congress should focus on constructive participation rather than questioning the schedule.
“As if Congress leaders are interested in running Parliament Session! But I will never get tired of repeatedly appealing the Congress Party to participate in the Parliament debates and discussions and also not to create obstacles for other sincere MPs. Let Parliament function," he said in a post on X.

Earlier today, the Congress Rajya Sabha MP slammed the Central government for scheduling the Parliament's Winter Session late and for a shorter duration.
“I was very surprised that this winter session was called so late. It's usually convened between November 20th and 23rd, and 24th December, lasting three to four weeks. I was surprised that this time the session will begin on December 1st and last only 15 days," he said as quoted by news agency ANI.
He further said that shortening sessions is often seen ahead of general elections and hinted that this may signal an early start to Lok Sabha polls.
“I don't understand what the government is running away from. Is there no legislation, no bills, no topic for debate? They just want to end it as a formality as quickly as possible. This is the first time we've seen this… Yes, sessions are shortened before elections, so does this indicate that Lok Sabha elections are coming?" he added.
The Winter session of Parliament will be held from December 1 to 19. Announcing the development, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju stated, “The Hon'ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu ji has approved the proposal of the Government to convene the Winter Session of Parliament from 1st December 2025 to 19th December, 2025 (subject to exigencies of Parliamentary business)."
The three-week session will have 15 sittings in all and is expected to be stormy as it comes in the midst of the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 states and Union territories, an exercise against which several opposition parties have raised objections.
