However, a video from a high-rise apartment in Noida, reportedly worth around Rs 1.5 crore, has left viewers stunned. In the clip, a resident demonstrates how weak the walls of his flat are. Instead of using a drill, he simply presses a wooden pencil against the wall and taps it with a hammer. The result? A hole is made within seconds.
The man jokes that the wall is so fragile that you don't even need a drill, just a pencil is enough. The now-viral video has sparked widespread online debate about the quality of construction in this expensive residential project. However, some viewers have pointed out that these are non-structural AAC (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) walls, commonly used in high-rise buildings for safety reasons.

In the video shared on Instagram, the man says, “This hole in the wall was made using a pencil. I placed the pencil against the wall, hit it with a hammer and it went right in. When I first tried using a drill and then used the pencil, the pencil went straight through the wall. It's a wooden pencil with graphite, which we used in school. That's how the house has been built, so weak that you don't even need a drill. You can make a hole in the wall just with a pencil."

Video Triggers Online Debate On Building Quality
Reacting to the post, a user explained, “Those are non-structural AAC walls. They aren't weak; they're lightweight, eco-friendly, fire-resistant, and insulate heat and sound well. That's why ideal for high-rise apartments. Since they're non-load-bearing, they reduce a building's weight, making it safer and more stable during earthquakes. We are used to purane zamane ke eent pathar ke ghar, so this comes as a shock, but you're only destroying your own home."
Another shared, “Pencil jada strong hai wall ki galti nahi hai. (The pencil is stronger; it's not the wall's fault)."
“How bad it feels to have been cheated, investing almost a crore at such poor infra," a comment read.
An individual stated, “Brother, these are AAC blocks, which are autoclaved aerated concrete blocks. As the name suggests, they have aur pockets, making it light, which makes drilling super easy. This is why knowledge is important."
Another mentioned, “Greater Noida ki mostly societies ka yahi haal hai. (This is the condition of most societies in Greater Noida.)"
One more added, “Buying flat in city like Delhi, Mumbai is bigger foolish things specially if you are from lower middle class or middle class, I would prefer to be always on rent and at end of the life would like to return to my village and from that save money I will make villa in my home town rather than living in pollution full city."
