Anna Hazare reacts after Raghav Chadha, 6 others quit AAP: ‘They must have faced’
Social activist Anna Hazare said the exit of Raghav Chadha and six other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MPs could have been avoided if the party had followed the “right” path.
Speaking to reporters in Ahilyanagar district of Maharashtra, Hazare said, “Everyone has the right to hold an opinion in a democracy. They (Chadha and others) must have faced some trouble, which is why they left.”
His remarks came after seven Rajya Sabha MPs, including Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal and Sandeep Pathak, quit the party, with Chadha saying all of them had merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Harbhajan Singh, Rajendra Gupta, Vikram Sahni and Swati Maliwal were the other four parliamentarians in the group of seven.
“It is their (AAP leadership’s) fault. Had that party followed the right way, they would not have left,” Hazare said.

Hazare said that Chadha and the other leaders likely encountered challenges within the AAP, prompting them to leave the party. “There must be some or the other reason (for their leaving AAP). In a democracy, every person has a view about where to stay and leave,” Hazare said.
The Chadha-led exodus marks a significant setback for the Kejriwal-led party since its formation in 2012, which followed the momentum of Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement.
While announcing the merger during a press conference on Friday, Raghav Chadha framed the decision as a matter of conscience, stating, “The AAP, which I nurtured with my blood and sweat, and gave 15 years of my youth to, has deviated from its principles, values and core morals. Now this party does not work in the interest of the nation but for its personal benefits…For the past few years, I could feel that I am the right man in the wrong party.”
