Amit Shah reviews border security grid in Bengal
Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed advanced border security technologies in Siliguri. He inspected surveillance systems and a radio-based fence breach detection system. Shah also laid foundation stones for BSF development projects worth over Rs 77 crore. The government is establishing a quadrangular security grid to fortify national borders. He emphasized the welfare of security personnel and their families as a priority.
Kolkata: Stressing that Modi government is establishing a quadrangular security grid to fortify the borders, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday reviewed the security arrangements along the border fencing, inspected indigenous and state-of-the-art technologies, designed to strengthen border security at Jhumagachh Border Outpost in Siliguri in North Bengal and reviewed surveillance system.
He also inspected a radio-based fence breach detection system, which instantly alerts personnel by broadcasting a pre-recorded message whenever the border fence is tampered with, people in the know said.
He laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development projects for BSF worth Rs 77.06 crore.
Shah today inspected indigenous and state-of-the-art technologies designed to further strengthen border security at Jhumagachh Border Outpost in Siliguri in North Bengal today.
“What was once a corridor of infiltration under previous governments in the Siliguri Corridor is now becoming synonymous with a secure border. Today, I inspected the surveillance system of the Border Out Post at Jumagachh BOP of the 18th Battalion of the BSF's North Bengal Frontier from the watchtower. The Modi government has not only increased the number of watchtowers along the borders but has also equipped them with state-of-the-art technology, making border security even stronger and impregnable,” Shah posted in his X Handle.
The Union Home Minister said that “under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India is committed to making the country's borders impregnable. The Modi government is establishing a quadrangular security grid to fortify the borders.”
He emphasized that “the welfare of security personnel guarding the nation's borders and their families is a top priority for the Modi government. The government is working towards making the borders completely secure and preventing infiltration in border areas through the concept of 'Smart Borders'.”
Shah inspected the infra-red alarm system installed to secure difficult terrains, such as areas with rivers and streams, or gaps in the border fencing. The system provides advance warning to the troops whenever the infrared beams are interrupted.
Shah also reviewed the gate management system designed to facilitate safe and smooth movement for civilians and farmers along the India-Bangladesh border.
He also laid the foundation for three BSF projects worth Rs 47 crore and laid the foundation for the construction of a 4-kilometer-long border fence worth Rs 30 crore on land newly acquired for two border outposts in West Bengal through virtual mode.
During 'Prahari Sammelan', Shah interacted with BSF personnel. He also visited a watchtower, participated in a tree plantation drive. Among the dignitaries, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhiakri and the Director General of the Border Security Force, were present on the occasion. Shah also visited the watchtower and joined the BSF personnel for high tea, people in the know said.
During the three-day visit in Bengal from July 17 to 19, on Sunday, Shah will inaugurate the first phase of the 'Museum of Words' at the National Library in Alipore. This is the first exhaustive visit of Shah to Bengal after the BJP came to power in the assembly elections in May.
