Amazon Plans To Lay Off Thousands More Employees As Cost-Cutting Drive Continues: Report
Amazon.com Inc. is preparing to cut thousands more corporate jobs as part of its continued push to streamline management layers, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The company is expected to begin rolling out the layoffs as early as next week, according to the report.
The latest round of job cuts comes just months after Amazon.com Inc. announced plans to eliminate about 14,000 roles. At the time, the company warned that further reductions could follow in 2026 as it identified “additional places we can remove layers".
Managers were given the option to carry out the cuts in October or defer them until the new year, the report said.
The reductions, which are being implemented in phases before and after Amazon's key holiday shopping quarter, mirror the layoffs carried out in late 2022 and early 2023, when the Seattle-based company eliminated roughly 27,000 positions.
Reuters earlier reported on the impending terminations. An Amazon spokesperson declined to comment.
As of September 30, Amazon employed around 1.57 million people globally, the majority of whom work in warehouses. The current layoffs are focused on the company's corporate workforce, which numbers about 3,50,000 employees.
Meanwhile, in December 2025, the e-commerce giant cut about 8.5% of its workforce in the tiny European nation, or roughly 370 employees out of a total headcount of 4,370. This marked Amazon's largest round of layoffs in Luxembourg in nearly two decades.
Amazon also reportedly cut 84 jobs in December, separate from 14,000 corporate layoffs in October 2025 globally, according to a report of Greekwire.
