Alpha Box Office Collection Day 1: Alia Bhatt's Spy Thriller Starts Slow With Rs 9 Crore Opening
After creating plenty of excitement before its release, Alpha has finally made it to the big screen. The film had a lot going for it, from being the first female-led story in the YRF Spy Universe to bringing Alia Bhatt and Sharvari together in an action-packed avatar. But its first day at the box office has turned out to be quieter than expected.
Released on July 3, Alpha opened to mixed-to-negative reviews from critics and audiences. The early response seems to have reflected in its box office performance as well.
According to trade website Sacnilk, Alpha collected ₹9 crore net in India on its opening day. The film was released across 7,534 shows nationwide, giving it a wide reach in cinemas.
While the opening is better than some recent Bollywood releases, it is the lowest day-one collection for any film in the YRF Spy Universe. The previous franchise release, War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, had opened to ₹52 crore net despite poor reviews and was released across 19,455 shows. Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan still holds the biggest opening in the franchise with ₹57 crore net on day one.
There is some good news for Alia Bhatt, though. Alpha has comfortably beaten the opening-day collection of her last theatrical release, Jigra. The 2024 film had earned ₹4.55 crore net on its first day from 5,779 shows, making Alpha the stronger opener of the two.
Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in the lead, with Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor playing key roles. Hrithik Roshan also makes a special appearance as Kabir, bringing his popular War character back to the big screen.
The film is also special for Sharvari, who currently has two movies playing in theatres at the same time. Her earlier release, Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga, is still running in cinemas, making Alpha her second theatrical release within a month.
Ahead of its release, the Central Board of Film Certification cleared the Hindi version of the film with English subtitles on June 29, 2026. According to an NDTV report, the film received a UA 16+ certificate and has a runtime of 2 hours, 20 minutes and 48 seconds.
News18 Showsha, in its review of the film, wrote, “There are high-budget combat sequences, elaborate choreography and gravity-defying stunts heavily laced with CGI. And yet, Alpha wins because it’s still rare to see women command action on this scale on the big screen. In a sequence, Hrithik Roshan’s Kabir (in a cameo), alongside Sita and Durga, takes down the bad guys."
The review further added, “What stands out is that the women are doing the equal heavy lifting, not waiting for the men to rescue and protect them. Cinematographer Rubais and background score composers Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara deserve special mention too. As for the performances, Alia holds fort as Sita."
