Akshay Kumar To Be Replaced By A 'Pan-India' Star In Rowdy Rathore 2?
Akshay Kumar's 2012 action comedy, Rowdy Rathore, remains one of the most loved movies to date. If reports are to be believed, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who produced the film, is now planning a sequel to his hit movie. However, this time, Akshay Kumar won't return as Vikrant Singh Rathore, but a pan-India star is likely to replace him.
If a report by India Today is to be believed, Bhansali Studios has decided to go big on Rowdy Rathore and convert it into a franchise. “Bhansali Productions is actively working on several major projects, including ‘Rowdy Rathore 2'. It's one of the studio's biggest franchises with a strong pan-India fan base," a source cited by the portal claimed.
The publication also shared that the cast is not locked yet and the film is still in its early stages. However, it also reported that in Rowdy Rathore 2, a ‘big pan-India star' is likely to lead the film in a cop avatar. “Given the film's wide popularity, the makers are looking to cast a major pan-Indian star," the insider added.
It should also be noted that there is no official announcement regarding Rowdy Rathore 2 from the makers as of now.
For the unversed, Rowdy Rathore originally starred Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha. Directed by Prabhu Deva, the film was an official Hindi remake of the 2006 Telugu film Vikramarkudu. It was widely loved by the audience and had earned a little over Rs 200 crore at the box office.
Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar will soon be seen in Welcome To The Jungle. The film marks the third chapter in the Welcome franchise, following Welcome (2007) and Welcome Back (2015). The 2007 release Welcome, starring Katrina Kaif, Paresh Rawal, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, and Mallika Sherawat, went on to become a superhit, attaining the position of being a cult classic Bollywood comedy movie. The release date for Welcome 3 has not been announced as of now.
