Ajit Doval Issues Denial After 'Hindus Attracted To ISIS' Video, Flags Deepfake Threat | Exclusive

National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval has issued a strong and unequivocal denial after a video circulating on social media falsely portrayed him as claiming that “more Hindus are attracted to ISIS than Muslims." Speaking to CNN-News18, Doval clarified that he has never made such a statement and warned that the clip appears to be a case of deepfake manipulation, designed to distort India's national-security discourse.

According to Doval, the fabrication highlights the growing threat posed by artificial intelligence–driven misinformation, where advanced media tools are deployed not merely for mischief but for targeted disruption of strategic narratives. He stressed that such weaponisation of technology can have direct implications for public trust, policy debates, and India's internal security environment.

The doctored clip emerged at a moment of heightened geopolitical friction and increasing domestic polarisation, raising concerns that the timing was not accidental.

Doval suggested that this manipulation attempts to undermine India's long-standing counter-terrorism stance, particularly its consistent position that ISIS recruitment within the country has been limited, closely monitored, and largely inspired by transnational jihadi propaganda rather than home-grown radicalisation.

By putting communal comparisons into his mouth, the deepfake appears crafted to inflame political sensitivities and manufacture social divides. Officials familiar with such influence operations note that this follows a broader global pattern in which AI-generated misinformation is used to create fissures within democracies, erode public confidence in institutions, and challenge the credibility of key national-security figures.

The circulation of the fabricated clip has also reignited debate on the regulation of synthetic media in India. While law enforcement agencies and cybersecurity experts continue to warn about the speed and realism with which deepfakes can now be produced, this incident underscores how rapidly they can enter the political bloodstream — especially during periods of tension.
