Travelling through Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD) is set to become far more comfortable in the coming days. A brand-new passenger lounge is scheduled to open at International Terminal 2 (T2) around Uttarayan that will offer upgraded facilities for both international and domestic flyers.
The airport reportedly handles an average daily footfall of around 35,000 passengers daily and the number continues to grow. More travellers are opting for premium services, so the demand for world-class lounge facilities at the airport has increased significantly.
Rising Footfall Creates Demand For A New Lounge At Terminal 2
Airport sources told The Times of India that several domestic airlines are gradually shifting their operations from Terminal 1 (T1) to Terminal 2. With this move, there is a clear need for a larger, more modern lounge within T2 itself. So, airport authorities are now coming up with a new domestic lounge with enhanced seating capacity and upgraded amenities. The upcoming lounge will be able to accommodate over 100 passengers at a time.
“The idea is to optimise space usage at T2, which is underutilised during daytime hours, while easing passenger congestion at T1," an airport official told TOI.
By converting T2 into an integrated terminal, the airport will be able to manage more domestic flights alongside international services.
Where Will The New Lounge Be Located
The upcoming lounge will be located on the first floor of T2 right after the immigration area which will also be easily accessible for international travellers. It will remain open 24/7 to cater to passengers across all flight schedules.

The new lounge will feature:
Plush seating arrangements
A live kitchen
A wide buffet spread
High-speed Wi-Fi
Charging points for devices
What About Food Options?
Along with Indian cuisine, passengers can enjoy Gujarati snacks and meals as well as Chinese and Italian dishes. The interiors are also expected to highlight Ahmedabad's local heritage and cultural identity.
Existing Lounges At Terminal 2
Currently, Terminal 2 primarily serves international passengers and already houses two lounges:
.Adani Lounge (International): Located on the 2nd floor (post security hold area), this lounge offers 24/7 service, though it remains non-operational on certain days for maintenance.
.The Lounge (International): It is situated airside on the 1st floor near Gate 3 and is equipped with amenities such as Wi-Fi, buffet meals and beverages.
With domestic traffic now increasing at T2, the new lounge under development will complement these existing facilities and specifically cater to domestic flyers shifting to the terminal.
A Step Towards Future Passenger Growth
According to airport estimates, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is expected to handle nearly 20 million passengers annually by 2025–26. To keep up with this growth, authorities are focusing on expanding and upgrading existing terminals before moving towards further infrastructure expansion.
“Therefore, to meet the growing demand for air travel, there is an immense need for increasing the capacity of existing terminals to optimally utilise them and then go on with further expansion plans," an official said.
More Passenger-Friendly Upgrades In The Pipeline
The lounge upgrade is just one part of a larger passenger experience revamp underway at Ahmedabad airport. According to TOI, travellers can also expect:

.Digi Yatra lanes for faster check-ins and security clearance
.Fast-track immigration channels to reduce waiting times
Adding to the good news, the report mentioned that the domestic lounge at Terminal 1 will undergo a makeover in the coming months. Once upgraded, it will be transformed into a more luxurious and relaxing space for passengers to unwind before their flights.
