A confrontation involving BJP councillor Renu Chaudhary and a foreign national in Delhi has triggered a heated debate online. The incident took place when the person of African origin was working with children at a park in Delhi's Pratapganj area.
The visuals show Chaudhary threatening the African man with consequences if he does not learn Hindi within one month. The man has been working in the neighbourhood for years as a football coach and training local children in the park.
BJP's Renu Chaudhary Confronts African Coach In Delhi Park
The video shows Renu aggressively confronting a group of people inside a public park. She is seen speaking loudly in Hindi and questioning why the foreign national has not learnt the language despite staying in India.
During the confrontation, the councillor accuses the group of not taking her seriously and repeatedly demands an explanation for the coach's inability to speak Hindi.
“You are not serious. Tum serious ho hi nahi meri baat ke liye (You are not serious about what I am saying). Sun ke bhi razi nahi ho tum (You are not willing to listen even after hearing me). Kyu nahi seekhi Hindi? (Why haven't you learnt Hindi?) Agar agle 1 mahine mein Hindi nahi seekhi, isse park cheen lo (If he does not learn Hindi in the next one month, take the park away from him)," she said.
The leader continues, “Hasne ki baat nahi hai, serious bol rahi hu ye (This is not something to laugh about, I am saying this seriously)." Chaudhary also claims that she had raised the issue eight months earlier and links language to livelihood, saying, “Yaha ka paisa kha rahe ho toh mu mein bhi Hindi bolna seekho (If you are earning money here, then learn to speak Hindi as well)."
She further mentions that she had earlier allowed the coach to continue after residents said he trains their children. “Sab society walo ne bola tha ki humare baccho ko seekhata hai, maine chhod diya tha (The society members said he teaches our children, so I let it go)," she says in the video.
Park Timings And Responsibility Warning
In another portion of the video, Chaudhary is seen pointing her finger at someone who is not visible in the frame and issuing a warning related to park rules and safety. “Btari hu tujhe, 8 baje park band ho jana chahiye, koi bhi criminal activity hogi toh tum zimmedar ho (I am telling you, the park should be closed by 8 pm, if any criminal activity happens, you will be responsible)," she says.
The clip was shared on X (formerly Twitter) with a caption that criticised the councillor's conduct. The caption read, “This is a BJP leader from Delhi, her name is Renu Chaudhary, the African person she's yelling at teaches football in the park, if he's done something illegal then there is law in our country, but she has a different kind of fondness for this kind of rude reel-making. One question: What if Indians living in Africa are treated like this?"
The user also shared a screenshot of a comment posted by Chaudhary, where she claimed that the man has been in India for the past 10–12 years. In the same comment, she alleged that residents of the society had complained that the park remains open till 11 PM.
Strong Backlash From Social Media Users
After the video circulated widely, several users criticised the BJP leader's behaviour and described it as rude, bullying and an abuse of power.
A user commented, “They are hitting new lows every single day!! What a gutter we have made of ourselves."
Another wrote, “Frustrated people! They feel powerful by creating such drama. It feels good for a while, allowing them to ignore life's failures and their own stupidities."
Someone else stated, “She is justifying the behaviour towards Hindi-speaking people in non-Hindi speaking states based on language through her actions. Shameful. In the pursuit of becoming a big leader, she has cast aside the Constitution and ethics."
“That is the reason people are leaving India the moment they get a chance," a person added.
“It is because of people with this mindset that development and progress are not taking place in the country. In famous tourist countries, 30,000 to 40,000 first-time tourists arrive daily, whereas in India, this figure is only up to 10,000. You can understand that due to their thinking and perspective," an individual said.
Other reactions included, “Ye dadagiri hai (This is bullying)," “File a case against her", and “Her behaviour is rude. This is not expected from a public representative."
Who is Renu Chaudhary?
Renu Chaudhary represents Ward No. 197 in Patparganj, East Delhi, as an elected councillor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. She secured the seat in the 2022 civic polls after defeating her Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) opponent by a margin of over 400 votes. She is also part of the BJP Delhi Mahila Morcha, where she holds a ministerial role.
