7 Easy Oats Breakfast Recipes For A Healthy Weight-Loss Diet

7 Easy Oats Breakfast Recipes For A Healthy Weight-Loss Diet
Got Question about the News?
The humble packet of oats has somehow earned a reputation for being the breakfast you eat when you’re trying to be “good". One week you’re excited about your healthy routine; by the third morning, you’re staring at the same bowl wondering how something so nutritious became so boring.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
Oats are one of those breakfast staples that can be dressed up in countless ways without requiring complicated ingredients or hours in the kitchen. And when paired with protein, fruit or vegetables and sensible portions, they can make for a filling breakfast that fits into a weight-loss-friendly eating plan.
Here are seven easy recipes to move your oats well beyond the basic breakfast bowl.
This one is for mornings when even switching on the stove feels like too much work. Mix rolled oats with milk or unsweetened yoghurt, chia seeds, chopped apple and a generous pinch of cinnamon. Leave it in the refrigerator overnight and breakfast is ready when you are.
For extra protein, add some Greek yoghurt or a little protein powder. Keep honey or maple syrup optional, the apple already brings plenty of natural sweetness.
If sweet oats aren’t your thing, don’t force it. Masala oats make a much more satisfying savoury breakfast, especially for Indian palates.
Cook oats with chopped onion, tomato, carrots, peas, capsicum and green chilli, then season with cumin, turmeric, coriander powder and a little black pepper. Add a boiled egg or some paneer on the side to make the meal more protein-rich.
A classic combination for good reason. Cook oats with milk or water and top with sliced banana, cinnamon and a small spoonful of peanut butter.
The important bit here is small spoonful. Peanut butter is nutritious but calorie-dense, so pouring half the jar into your breakfast bowl can quickly change the calorie count. Keep the portion measured and let the banana do most of the sweet-talking.
Give your regular chilla a fibre-rich upgrade by blending or grinding oats into a coarse flour. Mix it with besan, chopped onion, tomato, coriander, green chilli and spices, then cook thin chillas on a non-stick pan.
Serve with mint chutney or plain curd. It’s savoury, filling and a nice change from the usual bowl of porridge.
For something fresh and fuss-free, combine cooked and cooled oats with thick yoghurt and berries. Add strawberries, blueberries or whatever fruit is available, along with a teaspoon of chia or flax seeds.
This works particularly well when you want something creamy without turning breakfast into a sugar-heavy dessert. Choose unsweetened yoghurt and let the fruit provide the sweetness.
If you’re a fan of upma, oats can easily take its place in the pan. Lightly roast rolled oats, then cook them with mustard seeds, curry leaves, onion, green chilli and plenty of vegetables.
Carrots, beans, peas and capsicum work particularly well. Add lemon juice and fresh coriander at the end for a bright finish.
Yes, chocolate oats can make the list. The key is making them chocolatey without turning them into dessert.
Cook oats with milk or water and unsweetened cocoa powder. Once slightly cooled, stir in Greek yoghurt or protein powder and top with a few banana slices. A little cinnamon can also add sweetness without extra sugar.
Oats aren’t a magic weight-loss food, your overall calorie intake, protein, fibre, activity and eating pattern matter much more. Even a healthy oats bowl can become surprisingly calorie-heavy once you add generous amounts of nuts, nut butter, honey, chocolate and dried fruit.
Grains such as jowar, maize, ragi, and millet can be beneficial for weight loss. Whole carbohydrates like millets and quinoa also provide steady energy, fibre, and important micronutrients.
To make oats more appealing, especially for children, consider preparing them as banana oat pancakes, oats chilla, or chocolate peanut butter oat smoothies. You can also make homemade oat energy bites by mixing oats with peanut butter, dates, nuts, seeds, and honey.
An oats-only diet could lead to digestive problems if consumed in excess. While oats are considered a healthy food, eating the same type of food every day can have negative effects on the body.
