200 judicial officers to begin Bengal SIR scrutiny tomorrow

Kolkata: More than 200 judicial officers, whose name have been received from the Calcutta High Court by the Election Commission late Sunday night, will undertake the scrutiny and disposal of logical discrepancy and unmapped cases, as per the Supreme Court order, in all likelihood from Monday.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India is readying a portal for judicial officers for scrutiny and disposal of cases, a senior EC official said. ECI is designing a new portal for the judicial officers, which is different from the portal of the Micro-Observers, a senior ECI official told ET.
"ECI is designing a portal for the judicial officers, who have been appointed by the Supreme Court. After receiving the list from Calcutta High Court and their mobile numbers, user ids will be created for them by EC. We are ready from our end and training on the portal will be given tomorrow morning," a senior EC official told ET.
Meanwhile, more than 125 judicial officers were briefed on Sunday for scrutiny and disposal of logical discrepancy and unmapped cases in the Bengal SIR. Following the Supreme Court order to appoint judicial officers for the disposal of logical discrepancy cases at a high-level meeting convened on Sunday by the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Sujay Paul. Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty, DGP Peeyush Pandey, Kolkata Police Commissioner Supratim Sarkar, senior Election Commission Officials and 23 district judges, were present virtually, along with the Registrar General of Calcutta High Court, a top EC official said.
Scrutiny and disposal-related training, overall briefing about the hearing process and SIR, infrastructure-related requirements and logistics and all other modalities were discussed at the meeting. The scrutiny and disposal of logical discrepancy and unmapped cases are likely to start from Monday.
The Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court on Saturday constituted a committee in each district for "smooth compliance of the order of the Supreme Court" with a district judge, the district magistrate and the Superintendent of Police.
On Sunday morning, Special Rolls Observer Subrata Gupta conducted training of around 20 judicial officers. Training was also conducted at the district level as well. It has been learnt that in addition to the serving district judges and additional district judges, some retired judges have also been contacted, sources said.
One judicial officer has been sought appointed in every 294 assembly constituency and around 45 lakh logical discrepancies and unmapped cases are likely to be scrutinised and verified by the judicial officers, West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal said on Saturday. However, the exact number of judicial officers is not known yet.
Agarwal said, "We have sought one ADJ/DJ for every constituency (294) for the fast disposal of cases." ADJs and DJs will be assisted by micro observers and the state appointed new micro observers on a 50:50 basis, sources said.
Final data on logical discrepancies and unmapped is yet to be finalised.
