The cause of the fire is still unclear, and authorities are investigating what prompted the fire. Although, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi said the fire erupted probably because of the short circuit.
At least 10 people have been killed after a fire broke out at Trauma Care ICU of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on early Monday morning.
Fire brigade rushed to the spot for the firefirghting operations. According to reports, the fire broke out at around 2:30 and 2 am.
The cause of the fire is still unclear, and authorities are investigating what prompted the fire. Although, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi said the fire erupted probably because of the short circuit.
At the time of the incident, 23 patients were receiving treatment in the trauma ICU, the neighboring ICU, and the first-floor ward. Seven patients died in the fire, and after being evacuated, three more succumbed to their injuries. Medical staff and security personnel bravely risked their lives to rescue the patients, sustaining injuries themselves; they are currently undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and held a discussion with authorities of the hospital and Police officers.

According to Odisha CMO, CM Majhi expressed grief over incident.
Meanwhile the CM Majhi has ordered a judicial inquiry into the matter and directed authorities to immediately transfer the affected patients to safe locations and continue their treatment without any disruption.
Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi said, "When we came to power, we had given directions to the department to improve fire safety. In the current financial year, we have made a budget allocation of Rs 420 Crores for this. The work is underway. In the next financial year, we have earmarked Rs 400 Crores for the same. Strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible for the incident. Patients are under treatment in another ICU."
While expressing his condolences to the families of the deceased, the CM Majhi has announced Rs 25 lakh ex-gratia assistance from CM Relief Fund (CMRF) for the next of kin of every deceased individual.
He also met the patients, who are undergoing treatment and their relatives, assuring them of all possible support. CM Majhi also directed the health department and hospital authorities to make sure that the all injured and affected patients get the best possible medical care.
